We don't, we are just lamenting that when we did have the opportunity, we wasted the scholly on someone like Lofton

Didn't say it was happening it just sucks when we could have possibly had a player of his caliber especially now with glaring holes at the 4 and 5

The Week 2 Player of the Week has been awarded to K.J. Walton. Walton is a senior at Brownsburg High School. The 6-3 shooting guard is off to a great start to the season, and he has put himself into excellent position in the Indiana Mr. Basketball race. He also is a big reason why Brownsburg checks in as the #5 ranked team in 4A by Prep Hoops Indiana.

K.J. began the week with a monster game putting up 42 points and 17 rebounds in a 65-63 OT win over Warren Central. He followed that game up with a 28 point 9 rebound performance in a 60-56 win over East Chicago Central. In that game, Walton was 9-17 from the field and 9-12 from the line, and he also recorded 3 steals in the contest. While the numbers Walton posted are impressive by themselves, it is even more extraordinary due to the fact that Brownsburg was without senior guard Darrian Ringo both games, and K.J. was able to lead his team to a pair of victories.

Kaleb Johnson probably had the single best performance at the star laden event. He has been primarily a mid major target, but that too will quickly change. In the game against Greenfield on Saturday, Johnson had tournament high 33 points. He absolutely blistered the nets from all levels on the court. Johnson went 12-15 from the floor, 4-5 from the three-point line, and 5-6 from the free throw line.

The best thing about Johnson is his versatility. He has the ability to handle the ball and help set up the offense. His height allows him to see over smaller defenders and constantly make the right read and pass. Johnson has the ability to beat his man off the dribble, shoot the midrange, and displayed the ability to knock down 3-pointers with accuracy. While his release point on his jumper has a tendency to be flat at times, he does possess the extension and follow through which helps his consistency. Immediately after this impressive performance, Charlotte extended an offer, adding to the Tennessee, William and Mary, and Georgia Southern offers he claimed at the event. Look for that offer list to grow and interest level from high majors.

His profile pic is still gophers & it looks like he is working out in Bierman facility.

With 2 maybe 3 scholly's open for next year who would we be looking at in MN anymore? I mean we could be recruiting for next year but we need to fill probably 2 of those spots in this class. Save 1 for either 1 year grad transfer or un-used to balance the classes a bit.

The week before we used our last scholarship, Pitino met with Alex. We don't know what transpired, but my guess was: Do you want to play here or not? My guess also is Alex told Pitino that he was going to pick Wisconsin. A few days later Pitino accepted a commitment from Nwankwo. I have no doubt that Alex was his first choice, but her certainly had long enough to commit here if he had wanted to. Lofton did not "take" Alex's scholarship and neither did Nwankwo IMHO. Was Lofton a mistake? Yes, but Mathieu was a risk and look what an incredible contributor he is. Pitino doesn't have a long enough track record to get whomever he wants so he has to take some risks. Some turn out incredibly great and others don't. I have no doubt as he continues to push the program forward that our recruiting classes will continue to improve. They already have.
We lost Malik Smith and Hollins last year, but even with the loss of 3 players this year we still have Nate Mason, Carlos Morris and Konate to replace those minutes. We also have an improved Buggs to provide some minutes and Mo who is improved enough to provide many more minutes than last year. We also have Andre back at full strength. I don't understand all the angst…we are simply going to be better than last year.

+1 the only guys on the radar right now in that tournament are mostly class of 2017 guys with maybe 2 2016 guys now that Amir is out. The targets at this event won't be committing for a while
 

Well I saw Ben Johnson and Pitino there today so there were some gopher coaches there
 

Obviously the team could use some size next year but do the Gophers have any interest in Sacar Anim?

Does anyone know if he has a better offer than Dayton? I think that is the best offer he has(based on 247, scout, and ESPN) so far so if MN will regret losing him so will a lot of other lower end high-majors. I'm not saying he isn't a good player but for whatever reason all the high majors are staying away.

He's more than held his own against every level of competition he's played against. Someone's going to get a player, I hope it's the Gophers.
 

I just don't know if he can take his guy off the dribble? Maybe he can because I haven't watched him enough, but I've never really seen him in the half court be able to take a guy one-on-one to the hoop
 

Sacar the high majors do not like his slow and unorthodox release or accuracy from 3. At 6'4 you got a be a lead guard or be a good shooting 2. Last night the guy he was guarding a sophmore Trent bagged 31 off of Anim. Sacar would sign with the U in a heartbeat if they offered.
