The talent is there, only saw his games in the state tourney, but he didn't stick out like I thought he did the previous year. Again very small sample size.

Just doesn't feel like that big of a deal in todays environment. How many guys stay 5 years anyway. Win some, lose some, but you will always have other options.

Do we think it was money, or Gaard's somewhat mystical personality?
I think brad davison playing at Maple Grove and coaching at wisconsin is the most likely factor.
The tweet was belief, trust, development, family ... seems like something you'd say if you were listening to the nut man.

We don't have that many opportunities to be in the running for that elite of an athlete. We will give the scholarship to somebody but it likely won't be somebody who reminds you of the Baylor players from last year's tournament.

It’s hurts, he is a great athlete. Wisconsin success is what we hope to build, hopefully soon!

It's a new era - the blue bloods just buy the best players in the portal, even from P4 non-blue bloods (e.g. Blackwell to Duke). The blue bloods are less interested in high school recruiting these days, which gives increased opportunities to mine the prep talent pool for the next tier, which both Minnesota and Wisconsin are in. But, those players fall into 3 categories - 1) they play right away and do well enough to get a raise somewhere else, 2) don't meaningfully crack the rotation and transfer down, 3) play enough to keep them coming back, but not well enough to attract an offer the team can't pay. Some of things happen with portal players, too. Every player can leave every year.

TL;DR - You're right

Jaden Henley just signed a Undrafted FA with the Pistons

Grand Canyon guard Jaden Henleylaunched his NBA journey Wednesday night by signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Detroit Pistons, his agency announced.
Henley, Jaden

Slash Sports and Entertainment posted on its Instagram account that Henley, its client and the Lopes' leading scorer last season, signed the non-guaranteed deal after the NBA Draft ended with ESPN listing Henley as the fifth-best undrafted player. An Exhibit 10 contract can be converted into a two-way contract before the regular season and allows Detroit to hold Henley's G League rights.

"Just wanted to say thank you for all the support that you all showed me and all the rest of the student-athletes at GCU," Henley said in a video for Lopes Club members. "Just so you all know, I'm always proud to be a Lope. Lopes up."

The one-year, minimum-salary deal often is given to undrafted free agents to have them compete for a roster spot during NBA Summer League and team training camp. GCU's Gabe McGlothan also started his professional career by signing one with the Denver Nuggets in 2024.

After a 60-22 season, Detroit enters the summer with its roster situation in flux because of open spots, Jalen Duren's restricted free agency, Tobias Harris' unrestricted free agency and potential trades. The Pistons made NBA Draft night deals to select 6-foot-1 guard Ebuka Okorie of Stanford in the first round at No. 17 and 7-foot center Ugunna Oneyno of Virginia in the second round at No. 53
