All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

That was the least interested I've been in a Super Bowl in a long time. Certainly the two teams playing in it and it being a blowout played a part. But the game itself just doesn't have the feel it used to. It's become a game for the rich and famous.
It’s the least interesting round of the playoffs by far. Partially because it’s only one game, but mostly because like you said it’s more about the spectacle than it actually is about football.

This year's game was a throwback to how the a lot of Super Bowl's were in the 80s & 90s.

Los Angeles Raiders thrashed Washington.
Chicago thrashed New England.
Washington thrashed Denver.
San Francisco thrashed Denver.
Dallas thrashed Buffalo.
San Francisco thrashed San Diego.

Several in recent years have been tremendous theater coming down to the wire under the 2 minute warning, last play or even OT.

This one sucked. It happens in football, just wasn't expected given the betting line and a 3peat at stake by the team that got blown up.

Early Circa sports book betting line has the Vikings at 27-1 odds to win the Super Bowl next season.

It's not a terrible number, it's actually a pretty good price if you like the Vikings. Might be worth some pizza money

Yeah you’re not wrong, there have still been plenty of great games, I just agree with GII that the game just feels less about football than it does the cultural event for Rich people.
Which is fine but I prefer the focus on football.

I agree with all of that.

I thought the Sloths Coors Light Monday commercial was pretty funny.

What I liked about the Eagles in the playoffs is they destroyed people. They dominated the teams they played.

I don't like them, but there was no stupid call or missed field goal to blow it. They just took people apart.

Having a Metallica/Tool/Rage Halftime show would go a long way towards giving this event back to the people.
Musical tastes are so different. I mean, my wife still likes 80's disco dance music. Maybe 1/2 country and 1/2 pop or contemporary. I don't know answer but you will never satisfy even 50% of audience.

Yesterday was the 1st Halftime show since they started going big time that I couldn't name 1 song. Zero chance.

I've been begging for something that's not rap/hip hop/country for years now, but I realize I'm probably in the minority.

Didn't realize this - Lewis Cine was on the active Eagles roster for the Super Bowl. So he and his one career tackle now have a super bowl ring. I think that's the definition of "failing forward".

I've generally had a lifelong dislike of country music but they really need to think about a country music artist next year. I am guessing the problem with scheduling an artist is being terrified about upsetting or offending certain groups so they pander to who they think they should

Next year's show: Chris Stapleton with Willie Nelson and the likes of Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Kacey Musgraves, Tyler Childers, Margo Price in the mix.

If it's ever going to be Metallica, I would think next year is the best chance since it's in Santa Clara, CA and they are from the Bay Area.

KOC on the Dan Patrick Show, today.

There sure are a lot of NFL talking heads that believe the Vikes intend to franchise Darnold and then trade him for "limited" Draft picks (3/4 & 6/7).

A fine strategy I think. Get something for him. Or if you have to, throw him in and reap the 2nd season rewards granted by familiarity.

There's risk in doing that (you can't find a trade partner), and the return in trade won't hardly be more than the Comp pick. I think they let him walk, more than likely.

That was my first thought as well which is why I was perplexed hearing it from the rumor guys. I suppose there is value to another team not having to outbid other teams in FA.

It still wouldn't shock me if we were open to signing him to a bargain deal like 2/$40M if the QB FA market isn't as robust for Darnold as some think.

Kwesi Kool- I don’t even watch practice and spend most of my days in my office.

6. Sam Darnold, QB

Best team fit: Las Vegas Raiders

With the transition to coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, the Raiders could finally solve their QB issue in free agency by signing Darnold. Las Vegas was 30th in QBR in 2024 (40.4), and Darnold's 4,319 passing yards and 35 touchdown throws for the Vikings both ranked fifth in the league. And in Vegas, Kelly could scheme for Darnold's arm talent, while also using his mobility to attack the edges.

Has sauce shared his draft insights yet? He is the expert in the tc. Love it when. He acts like he doesn’t know the attended college of a draftee.

I'm a bit out of the loop. What is the situation with Daniel Jones? Do we think he is coming back next season?

If Darnold is back, there's no chance. If he's not back, I think the Vikings make a strong push to bring him back and he signed with us last year for a reason IMO.

One way or another, my guess is he will be the highest paid backup QB ($10M?) in the league next year regardless of where he lands.

The deal to trade him would be worked out prior to them using the franchise tag.
