All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

I just don't know if I would consider someone not signing with you a bet. I guess you could consider it a bet if we're saying we would have went after Russell Wilson or another more-prominent backup but for the pursuit of Daniel Jones.

Who? Russ Wilson was worse than Wentz. I am sure there are guys reasonable people would have been better than Wentz, but I'm not seeing many.

For me, it all stems from one decision that did not work out. They decided to move forward with JJ McCarthy as QB and it didn't work out this year. That meant they chose him over Darnold, Aaron Rodgers, Daniel Jones, and maybe other options.

I don't really disagree with any of that, other than with Daniel Jones it was a little more different than a regular "signing". He had been in Eagan under contract at the end of 2024 and were offering him the same/more than the Colts.

As for Wentz it's hard for me to judge, he was hindered from injury during the Europe road trip. With health he could have kept them even more afloat, they went 2-3 with him as is.

Regardless, the riding with JJM was above all the biggest gamble. A healthier O-Line might have swayed the odds.

I suppose you could say KAM took a gamble by paying Jones to sit on the bench at the end of last season to see what he was all about and potentially give us the advantage in re-signing him as a FA.

I'm not a fan of KAM but if what he did with Jones was considered a "bet", I'd make that wager every time. The poor wager was to trust that an unproven and oft-injured guy without an adequate backup QB would be the best course of action.

Agreed, I'm not a fan of KAM either but I think it was a smart move that almost worked. If Anthony Richardson was remotely decent, I think Jones would have stayed. As bad as JJ was, I'd much rather compete with Richardson for a starting job than JJ.

Congrats to First Team All Pro Will “The Thrill” Reichard and Second Team All Pro Andrew DePaola,
@Ope3 @GopherGrit

That's awesome for DePoala and a greater honor than the Pro Bowl.

Unfortunately it does not punch a ticket to the Pro Bowl Games, so any Viking fans looking to root for one of their own will still be disappointed.

Much more prestigious, so there’s that.

That was Stafford’s first time making it, in his 17th season, joining Gary Anderson for the longest time ever to snag All-Pro honors in a career😀.
That’s improving you best

Stafford is an underachiever compared to his High School battery mate, dude by the name of Kershaw.

I would bet they attend each other's ceremonies in Canton and Cooperstown respectively.

You would really bet the farm if the Bears host the Packers in a rubber match?

What if they host either a West Coast Rams, 49ers, or Seahawks on a nasty sub-freezing blustery day by Lake Michigan?

Well, not only did this matchup come to fruition, it was topped off by.... I am literally speechless about how that game turned out last night. Just jaw-dropping... The efforts of the Packers to dump this game were limitless.

I did not bet the game, although I did include the Packers in a 3-4 game ML parlay that had some longshots to begin with so no harm really done.

Luckiest team I have seen in many many years.

Well, good thing you didn't throw major action on it. I had other things to do last night, so I watched it this morning without knowing the outcome.

I expect Green Bay to be in the John Harbaugh Sweepstakes after that result and how it happened. Thousands of angry shareholders.

Bears catch another break with Eagles loss. LA/Dome team will be traveling to Chicago now. Early forecast looks like High temps in the teens or low 20s.

Eagles really screwed the pooch when they rested all their starters last week. Ended up with 49's instead of Packers and Bears lucked into #2 seed.

if i'm the bears, i would much rather have played philly with how terrible their offense looks right now. staff has played enough games outside a dome to be fine (provided his hand is fine)

Interesting note from The Athletic on Udinski that I kinda forgot about and hadn't heard how much of an impact he has. Now the OC with the Jags, he's sure helped make Lawrence a much better player this year.

>>"One of the underrated and underdiscussed factors in the Vikings’ offensive ineptitude this season was losing former assistant offensive coordinator/assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

During the season, even early on, multiple team sources explained that Udinski’s absence affected quarterback preparation and pass-game design.

“We should have done everything we could to keep him,” one team source said earlier this year.

Last season, the Vikings quarterbacks were effusive in their praise of Udinski and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown. McCown brought decades of quarterbacking wisdom, and Udinski knew the ins and outs of O’Connell’s intricate system".<<

Udinski getting some looks at HC spots. Vikings should have never let him leave the building!

Stafford has played several games outside in the NFC North, but not sure how many his teammates have played. They hung in last year against Philadelphia but ultimately lost.

It's not the end all be all, if it at least gets to the the high teens, but wind might be more of a factor.

The 1985 Rams had zero chance anyway when they got to Soldier Field for the NFC Championship, but I don't think the 37 degree weather and snow helped. I expect this year's Rams to fare a bit better.

The game time High in CHI is expected to be around seven (7) degrees with winds 10-15 mph. It definitely could play a factor but I'm still favoring the Rams against that Bears defense. Nacua and a healthy Adams are a handful and the Kyren/Corum RB combo should rack up some yards.

I don't know about the Rams health situation but the Bears lost starting LB TJ Edwards and starting LT Trapilo for the rest of the season. Those are not small losses, to say the least. Safety Brisker, one of their best DB's, has been banged up all year with a few different ailments, and he left the field at one point Saturday for a short time before returning later in the game.

Rams are better on offense and better on defense. Not a great matchup for Chicago but who knows....

Who is the guy who kept saying we should have went with Aaron Rodgers?

I mean, damn, man!

What you didn’t like that pick 6 to end his career while losing 30-6 with the defense out scoring you 12-6?

Love that for Thielen!! Crazy 4th quarter.

Will definitely be rooting for Thielen and the Steelers in the AFC.

Pains me to think of what could have been. Rodgers playing awesome, even ran for a first down earlier. Our roster and especially defense playing better here at the end.

I was right all along

Tonight should have eleviated any "oh what might have been" feeling.

Unless they are named Brady, 42 year old QBs just don't lead their teams to February, especially ones that have not won a Playoff game since 2020 nor gone to the Super Bowl since 2010.

Entirely predictable.

The fossil sucked this evening.

Phil Mackey on PD just said Vikes would be super bowl contenders right now had they brought in Rodgers and his $12 million contract.
His argument is that Rodgers is the #12 rated QB. Also our defense is rated #1 over the last 7 weeks according to stats.

Mackey said the decision to not bring in Rodgers should go down as one of the biggest personnel mistakes in viking history. There is little doubt that KOC was intrigued with the idea last spring. However the hate toward the idea of bringing in Rodgers that was shown by Vikings media and fandom alike was too much for KOC.

Zulgad, who hates Rodgers with the heat of a thousand suns, grudgingly agreed with Mackey's assertion.

Nope.

I get what you are saying with all of that, and I agree 100%; but I still put the likelihood of the Steelers having a good season pretty damn high. The reason for that? Arthur Smith and Mike Tomlin. Arthur made chicken salad out of chicken shit last year with Justin Fields and a worn out Russell Wilson and he has a great history of being a good offensive mind.

If Rodgers stays healthy, the Steelers will be a tough out. Coaching is just too damn good

So Rodgers was worth 1 win more than the Fields/Wilson combo.

I will credit Rodgers, as it was pretty much drama free this season and a better way to go out than what he did with the NYJ.

Worth a shot (from Rodgers perspective).

The Vikings gave up a 4th Rd & 5th Rd to move up 1 spot as well as got a 6th Rd pick in return.

The 6th turned out to be Will Reichard. Not too shabby.
That's right, for whatever reason I thought we gave up another first. I think I was remember rumors leading up to the draft about us moving both our 1sts to try to get Maye. That would have sucked.
