4 Minnesotans have hit 20 homers in a season as Twins: Wallner, Hrbek, Winfield and Mauer. The list of Minnesotans that have hit 20+ homers for other teams includes Maris, Steinbach, Molitor and a handful of guys I've never heard of. Well, I've heard of Ike Davis, but had no idea he was born in Minnesota.

True, but I looked up Ike Davis and have made note that he qualifies as a Mets 30 HR guy, also had a + .300 average (season).

Can also be used in a combo with Mets/Yankees/Pirates/A's.

It’s a banner day on the Grid for using current Twins who may not be long for wearing the uniform.
 


Lot of positives on offense side tonight. Unfortunately, we traded away most of good bullpen arms.
As I noted on a previous comment, I approve of the aggressive baserunning.
 




So I have MLB.TV and many nights throw on what's called MLB Big Inning which is kinda like Red Zone for the NFL. The Angels-Rangers went into the bottom of the 7th with the Rangers up 12-3. So the Angels bring in a position player. 9 batters later it's 20-3 with only 1 out...in the 7th. So they have another inning to go after this.

It's pathetic to watch how often these position guys throw. It used to be a funny quirk you would see once in a blue moon. Now it's boring and stupid because it happens all the time.

I agree. Big part of it, IMO, is the reduced pitch count bs. Use him 1 inning or 20 pitches and he's done. I'm in the Jack Morris/Nolan Ryan camp on letting pitchers throw.

Cool Minnesota baseball story. I have fun memories as a kid going to similar games just down the road trying to get foul balls for a quarter. Never had to compete against a dog though.

 

Pretty much done paying attention, but flipped over just now. Abel worked out of the pen. Threw 35 pitches in one inning. Gave up 3 hits and a walk. I know they're scraping the bottom of the barrel, but he's clearly not ready for the Bigs.

Edit: They sent Abel out for another inning where he threw 25 more pitches, but failed to get an out.

Sigh, I was at the game. First 5 innings moved along, then the young ones came in and couldn't get outs. The game dragged on from there. It's clear the Twins have no concern about winning and are simply using the last month as early spring training to see if there is anyone worth keeping for next season. The Twins should be paying the fans to show up because they are unconcerned with competing.

Bradley was good. Abel was not, although Brooks Lee butchered a routine ground ball that started the snowball. They can't use these guys this way, it's not helpful. Put Mathews and Festa in the bullpen as regular relievers and go with Ryan, Lopez, Ober, Bradley and SWR as the rotation for now. Abel needs more AAA time.
 

A little Twins trivia to lighten the darkness…in 1981, the Twins had three players receive votes in the Rookie of the Year balloting, two of whom became future All-Stars. Name those players.

Glad to see himr bounce back - good sign and he had 14 swing and misses on the 54 strikes he threw- electric stuff😀

Will be interesting to see where he ultimately ends up playing regularly (?). He has 6 career errors each at SS & 2nd with subpar fielding % and none at third. He’s not quick enough for those spots, but his string arm and need for Lee mobility, might fit well at third in the long run, or a utility player? Brooks also only homers 9once every ~28 ABs, pretty light for a corner IFer.

Seems like Lewis will get plenty of run at third, with Culpepper the future SS ( ana he can hit some)and Keaschell at 2nd.

Glad the Twins are using these games to see what their new acquisitions can/can’t do, so hopefully they can have a plan ready for next season.

Why SWR over Zebby? I think it’s hard to argue that SWR has a higher ceiling than Zeb, and young pitchers need to be on the mound and learn from the situations, and if Zebby is going to be a starter long term, leave him in the rotation, to learn.

Zebby is better than SWR, but I think he's a better candidate for the bullpen. SWR will always be a #5/6/7 starter.
 

Twins pitching still sucks for the most part, and their batting averages are generally not good, but the new aggressive base running, stealing bases, etc, version is much more enjoyable to watch.

For a team "not concerned about winning" they played 23 pretty good innings of baseball against one of the foremost teams in MLB.

The ending last night was god awful, but they still took 2 of 3 against the Friars.
