All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

I have wondered what the issue was as well. The Rockies also have pine trees in centerfield. How distracting can a 10 foot tall Spruce be?
Just going from memory, but I think Morneau's complaints were it was distracting when they would sway with a breeze as well as something to do with shadows/glare during day games instead of a traditional "batters eye".

Jim Thome didn’t even notice them.

Twins starting lineup to night is 5-38 against this Detroit pitcher.

3 players have not faced him.

Eddie Julien leads the pack, career 2-6 and batting 9th.

Souhan's taking a stance that it's an unpopular opinion that the Twins were right to trade Correa. Judging by reading things here and elsewhere, I'm seeing very little fuming over that move.
I agree. Yeah we didn't get anything in return, but we got a lot of money off the books. It would make me feel better if I had any confidence they would reinvest that money, but still better to have Correa off the books.

It makes a little more sense why Jax got dealt. Dan Hayes reported that once Correa was gone, he wanted out too. Maybe Varland felt similarly.
I would say, "tough cookies" to Jax (and Varland if he did ask). Twins were their employer and were making good money to play a game.

The Varland trade sounds like it was a straight up baseball decision, they got what they think it a viable starter (Rojas) back in return. Also part of they deal, got OF Roden who they can give a shot to play right now (in addition to wiping France off the books the rest of the year).

Typical Souhan stuff. He follows enough to notice some folks are slightly annoyed at the trades and that the ownership is cheap and then he assumes that annoyance centers on Correa.

He doesn't follow sports enough to fully understand the situation and he's too arrogant to do 8 minutes of research.

I actually believe them with this. I tend to disagree but the Varland move feels like a pure baseball move, it's just one I disagreed with.

If I am the owner/manager, the players I want to build around are the ones who would be pissed at the team having a firesale when they are only 5-6 games out. As a fan, I didn't consider us a contender and I wanted us to trade off pieces, but I would want players who would be pissed about last Thursday.

If we moved on from Jax because he is highly competitive and wants to win, that's a huge problem.

So has Royce Lewis. Worked out real well.

Jax turns 31 right after the season ends. To rebuild, it made far more sense to move him, Stewart, and Coulombe over Duran/Varland who are both 27. Varland isn't a FA until 2031.

While on the surface I don't really get the Varland trade, there is something to be said for gaining a lefthanded Starting pitcher (Kendry Rojas) in return, if he is close to making it to the Show. The Twins definitely have that need.

If he does not make it as a starter, he could also be a viable bullpen candidate.

Fireable offense?!?

First off the trade wasn't for Wentz but a Boston farmhand.

Good for Alcala to get on track and the Red Sox to do whatever to help him out, but in 13 games only 2 were a single run margin of victory.

All the rest were ultimately 3 or more runs. More than half have been blowouts of 5+.

Not exactly high leverage situations.

Nailed it.

DFA'd.

Ok so maybe not a fireable offense when the twins got rid of him. Guy just can’t do it. Would look great in class A town ball if he lives in the cities still.
It was pretty apparent Alcala had not found the magic potion in Boston in his return to Target Field last week with the Red Sox.

Tight game. Needed GPS to find the strike zone.
