All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Plus Rocco's back to Swingin' Vazquez catching every other game. He couldn't stay on the wagon I guess. Add in Kiersey playing half the time and you're crippling an already struggling line-up.
It's so Jeffers can play more often. He's started 10 out of the last 11 games. If he's starting 2 or 3 games in a row, then he's likely going to get more full days off. Vazquez's bat sucks but so do the other guys that would replace him if he is playing less. At least this way we get Jeffers hot bat in the lineup more.
Jeffers is 2 for his last 14. I hope he sits or only Pinch Hits tomorrow.

I'll disagree. Jeffers can catch 4-5 a week and still DH once/week. Last night we basically sat Brooks Lee for Vazquez. That's a big downgrade.
He's never consistently caught more than 4 times a week (the most games he's caught in a season is 86). If we want his bat in the lineup just about everyday, this is the way that it can happen. It's not like Vazquez is taking the place of guys that are hitting the ball well themselves. Lee had just started a bunch of games in a row so that could have been just a day off for him.

I may be in the minority, but not a lot of things bug me more than infielders extending too far into the outfield to make a catch while calling off outfielders. Buxton vs. Correa didn't need to happen.

Jeffers is like 27. He shouldn't be only catching 86 games/year. That's the point. He can and should catch 4-5 games per week. Many other starting catchers do. There's no reason for Vazquez to catch more than one game per series, especially once Wallner/Buxton are back. I would much rather Jeffers catch 110 and DH 10 than catch 80 and DH 40.

Another Vazquez/Kiersey pairing at the bottom of the line-up today. Sigh.

I am glad to see Castro given some bench. That was a clown show in LF last night. He seems weirdly disengaged this year.

If it was a substandard CFer, I could have understood Correa making an attempt at that ball. With a healthy Buxton out there, it's just befuddling that he made an attempt on that.

Royce Lewis could really help out the team by going back on the IL. 0 for his last 21, hitting a whopping .143 on the season.

His two at-bats today so far resulted in a lineout at 106.3 mph (.550 xBA) and 103.4 mph groundball (.450 xBA). In his last two at-bats Monday he had a flyout at 102.6 mph (.770 xBA) and another flyout at 101.1 mph (.550 xBA). But he went 0 for 4 in his last 4 at-bats.

He hasn't been good overall by any means but he's been hitting the ball hard lately and has been very unlucky.

The Twins Brain Trust did not heed my call, and used Jeffers today as DH.

He went 0 fer 4 to extend his cooler, now 2 for his last 18.

Not that it likely mattered as they fall 5-0 to the Rays this afternoon.

I imagine if Ty Cobb went 0-4 and some dork went up to him spouting off a bunch of numbers about how he was just unlucky, that person would have gotten slashed across the neck with a metal spike.

If you read Correa's account of the incident, he said Buxton called him off at last second and he veered one way but Buston, unfortunately, veered same way after catch. Crowd noise had an effect. But don't let facts get in the way of an uninformed opinion.

The fact is that infielders extending their range into where a normal outfielder can reach the ball coming forward is a relatively new thing. Not uninformed in the least but I don’t need to justify that to you. I’m simply not a fan of the practice that directly led to an injury. Weird flex.

So you would have Correa just give up on the ball and concede a hit. That's a weird juxtaposition to me.

I’m saying infielders tend to go farther out and call off outfielders unnecessarily. If you read my first post, you’d know that. That’s all.

Actually 2 injuries.
