All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

This team is stale. They need a changing of the guard of the positional players (I would not sell any SP). If they can get ***good*** prospects for Buxton, Royce, or a reliever they should do it.

They need to avoid getting volume prospects in return. They need top prospects from a given organization not their 7th, 15, 20th...

Saw a report that the asking price for Jax or Duran is multiple top 100 prospects. If they could get a say top 30 and top 75 I'd probably do it. But if it's two from the 75-100 range, I'd pass.

Buxton is not a trade option.

Why? Because he said he wants to remain a Twin? Team A offers him a 3-year, 90 million contract extension and he'd quickly change his tune on his no-trade clause.
He has 3 years left on his deal at which point he will be 35. No team is offering him that extension. And trading him while a sale is pending would be terrible PR.

I don't get why so many people want to trade our best players that are under team control for multiple years at a team friendly cost.

I can only speak for myself.

I am not optimistic on the Twins 2026 fortunes, thus I am more inclined to stock up on prospects (while their tradable assets can perhaps fetch top dollar) to make a run at 2027 and beyond.

Because he is 31 and is in his most healthy year since 2017 (1 year since 2017 over 100 games - 102 last year). This core of players is not going to get it done.

I get he said he isn't going anywhere, but that could just be PR too. If you can get a deal done to move him that he agrees to, it is a no brainer. Move him while he is at max value. The twins already have terrible PR. If I were interested in buying a team I would be more interested in buying a team with some interesting prospects than an injury riddled vet.

Rather than trying to build around our current talent, all we accomplish with these types of trades is reinforcing our status as a treadmill team.

The potential trade partners are also aware of Buxton's injury situation, thus unlikely to increase his already agreed upon contract.

Combining that with the No Trade clause and age, I would not anticipate a huge bounty for his services.

I disagree but I get it.

If this core doesn't get it done it's going to be because guys like Correa, Lewis, Ober, etc didn't get it done. Right now you have one of the top CF in the game, two legit top pitchers and a really good bullpen. Getting rid of anyone of them seems counterproductive.

Coming into 2025 the Twins on paper had a solid rotation that could keep them competitive in the regular season, with the potential to catch fire in October.

My opinion on the potential of the Twins fortunes fell off a cliff with Lopez getting hurt and Ober being injured/highly unproductive. Add to that Paddock's solid April - May stretch being Fool's Gold, now all of a sudden it's down to Ryan as a reliable starter.

That's just is not going to get it done. Lopez coming back healthy in 2026 seems realistic. Ober???

Add some lineup issues, especially getting very little out of Correa & Lewis, and next year feels like getting to .500 is going to be tough. Perhaps fringe Playoff contenders, but not a threat at all in the post-season.

I will bet on those guys rebounding. I am not going to bet on getting two healthy years in a row from Buxton.

The tradable guys are those on expiring contracts like Bader, Vazquez and France. The next level up would be guys like Jax, Correa, and Castro. There is some talent in the minors so if we are not going to make a playoff run, then it's time for those kids to audition.

Castro falls into the first group. His arbitration time is up, he's a free agent after this season.

Other than Buxton and Correa due to clauses in their contracts, everyone on the Twins roster is "tradeable".

Pitch to Ohtani and if goes yard so be it.

Beyond that catch the ball.
