All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Happy 42nd birthday to former Twins pitcher Brian Duensing. He is the only pitcher in Minnesota Twins history to win two games in one day—at least on paper. Duensing came out of the bullpen in both games of a doubleheader in Chicago on August 9, 2013, retiring all four White Sox he faced. What doesn't show up in the record book, however, is that back in 1969 Jim Perry earned two wins for the Twins on the same day when he pitched two hitless innings, doubled, and scored the winning run in a game resumed from the night before
They don’t make ‘em like that only more.

You can say that again
, and then pitched a complete-game shutout in the day’s regularly scheduled game.
They don’t make ‘em like that only more.
Officially, however, the first win shows up as the day before—when the game began. (Going back to Washington Senators days, Walter Johnson also once won two games in one day.)

Duensing pitched a three-hit shutout as the first-place Twins beat the Oakland A’s 2-0 on August 14, 2010. He gave up one hit in each of the first three innings before completely shutting down the Oakland offense for the final six innings. Reigning AL MVP Joe Mauer went 3-for-4 in the game. The Twins went on to win the Central for the sixth time in nine years that season, with a remarkable SIX pitchers notching at least 10 wins each: Carl Pavano (17), Francisco Liriano (14), Kevin Slowey (13), Scott Baker (12), Nick Blackburn (10), and Brian Duensing (10).

Lol. Stop. They are still for sale and likely will be sold. But certainly this delays things.
I have doubts about "likely". In the recent past, both the Angels & Nationals were put on the market and subsequently yanked.

Labor strife looming. Local TV/Broadcast/Streaming uncertainty. ESPN out.

It doesn't seem unreasonable that the Pohald's follow Moreno & the Learner's lead. They aren't negotiating in a position of strength.

No upper hand. No hand at all.

The Twins did beat the Braves today, 3-1, oh by the way.

Anything is possible. But we can't assume that Ishbia is the only suitor only because it's the only one that leaked.

Well, here we go with 32 spring training and 162 regular season.

In true Minnesota sports fan fashion, am thinking tonight about which season ended in a more disappointing way - Twins or Vikings.

Am leaning Twins. Going into August I thought making the playoffs was a lock. And yet, somehow . . .

So here we go again. Pitchers and catchers reported a few days ago and first st game is already in the books. 193 more times I will be looking at box scores and probly also wondering why Rocco doesn't bunt more, why he pinch hits too much, and how thankful I am for provus and morneau rather than dick and bert.
Most important, there will be 193 more "Play Balls!". Wonder how many hours I have spent watching/listening to Twins in my lifetime. A lot of memories.

I caught a few innings on the radio of yesterdays contest, a 5-1 loss to the Pirates.

One of the more interesting things was hearing Gladden/Atteberry describing the few ball & strike challenges which are taking place on a trial basis during this Spring Training.

Rod Carew heading to first with the Twins. He played 12 seasons with the Twins and had a .334 average with 2085 hits out of his 3053 career hits.

Longtime Twins organization equipment manager, trainer, and clubhouse attendant Wayne Hattaway was born in Mobile, Alabama on this date in 1940.

Video of when Carlos Zambrano was ejected and then ejected the ump (I miss that era, where it was nuttier and non-analytical) -

Oh by the way, Twins vs Rays was cancelled yesterday due to rain.

They are scheduled to host those Darn Yankees today it Ft Myers. Probably could have played it in the TC if they needed to this afternoon under pretty decent conditions.

Good day for the new guys, as Bader and France have both homered.
Bad day for the guy that I'm struggling to figure out why they ever wanted him back, as Tonkin gave up 4 hits, a walk and 3 runs in the inning he worked.

SWR was even better than imagined with his inaugural season, from an article talking about last season. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t grab the 5th spot and equally shocked if Paddock makes it to the AS break unscathed.

Among all rookie pitchers in Twins history (minimum of 125 innings pitched), Woods Richardson finished second all time in strikeouts per nine innings (7.9) and swing-and-miss percentage (22.3%). He also finished fifth all time in opponents' batting average (.246) and tied for fifth in strikeouts (117).

Time to move Spring Training to Arizona...

Maybe they Cubs had it best when they held their Spring Training on Catalina Island in LA County.

Now, they pretty much only allow golf carts.

Fascinating perspective, at least to me, on the gyrations of Darvish’s arsenal - imagine trying to hit this for a living 😆

The 2 seamer looks more like a screwball it has so much run and break.

If Darvish could stay healthy....
