All Things 2025-26 Minnesota Wild Season Thread

Wild trade Hinostroza for future considerations.

Wild win 4-2. Sweep the season series with Vegas.

That McCarron dude is huge and because of that size he was able to get a tip in goal. He and Brink both looked good last night. Tomorrow is the big one in Colorado

Brink's a pretty good player, but giving up on the 22-yr old Jiricek seems a tad premature. But you have to give up assets to get assets.
Jiricek sucks. Was a terrible move to give up what we did to get that dead weight. Bye. Enjoy minor league hockey. You suck.

I knew Vegas was hitting the skids several weeks ago. I took Anaheim to win the Pacific before the Olympic break at +600, and I even took a sampling of Vegas to miss the playoffs around that time at +425. A no-brainer really; no William Karlsson, Mark Stone for what could be the rest of the year, at best questionable goaltending, this is not a good Vegas team.

Most folks are more civil on this board, Jake. You could give it a try.

Non-sequitur. Jiricek is awful. Worst move Guerin has made during his tenure to acquire that piece of shit in the first place.

Is the NHL playoff set-up the dumbest in all of sports? As it stands now, the 6th best team in the west would have an easier path to the SC Final than the 2nd and 3rd best teams.

I don't understand what the purpose is for this format.

Bettman thinks it produces rivalries in their respective divisions. Thinks it will produce more viewers in the early rounds. Personally I think it’s ridiculous and it’s been long overdue to go back to 1 vs 8 2 vs 7 and so on

Maybe so. But maybe we pump the brakes on this just yet since there's a lot of hockey left to play and things could likely look a lot different between now and Round 1. At the end of the day, most anyone in the West is going to have to go through Colorado and/or Dallas either way, does it really matter when that happens? Unless we're into moral victories of winning at least one round in the playoffs.

These things tend to even out over the course of time

Just remember anything can happen in a 7 game playoffs series. remember in 2003. No one gave the Wild a shot of upsetting Colorado and we did it. No one gave us a shot of upsetting Vancounver and we did it. I hate the format now. But anything can happen in the playoffs.

Sure anything can happen but damn that was over 20 years ago. Hasn’t been close to that for the Wild since. The format sucks period

So we’d go Utah, Dallas Colorado instead of Dallas, Colorado, Anaheim?

Sounds like effectively the same thing

It cuts both ways every year and is all about matchups and health. Playing Dallas without Hintz (just got hurt) seems fine than a hot Utah that’s finally healthy.

Each year there is maybe one team you’d feel fine playing (St Louis last year), probably whoever is 8 in the west this year. The rest is all just so damn close anyway. Agree with Ogie that most anyone can beat anyone come playoff time with health being the biggest thing that can cause discrepancy

The ridiculousness of it is probably more on the other side. The team with the 6th best record can get to the Western finals without having to play a top 3 team.

I guess my counter is in hockey it’s so much more how you’re playing now. Margins are razor thin. Outside of 1 or 2 teams on both ends, everyone else is so damn close. The central is just really good this year so it’s frustrating for Wild fans when this looks like our best team in a long time. It does also add some fun in that the way the central has built teams is different as is the style played there vs the pacific, so as someone who just enjoys hockey, it creates interesting matchups as you go.

The points thing is also hard with ot and with loser points with the west having maybe the worst 4 teams in the league (health of course a factor). The Wild have the 4th most 5v5 wins and are right in the log jam in the low to mid 20s. We’ve just been really damn good in ot and sos (comparatively to Colorado and Dallas) which has made us way up the charts. We’re 13-10 (crazy number of games) and they’re 4-9 and 7-10 respectively. Anaheim is 15-3 (7-3 in OT and 8-0! In the SO).

Think that is probably where the nhl needs to fix things more with loser points and such versus the format (imo) as it also eases travel on players and scheduling of game so does have its perks there too.

And that is just one more reason how the current format needs to go

Wally has been on today so far. 22 saves halfway through the second

Nobody gives up more SOG on the road than the Wild (at least in the last 10 road games). I hammered Wallstedt on the Over 28.5 saves, didn't think twice about it. He's got 25 already. My projection had the Wild giving up 39 SOG today

Colorado take it in a Shootout. the officials in this game was god awful. some missed penalty that should have went againist Colorado in the 3rd.

Always love Granger's goalie takes and analysis. He always has really, really good stuff

That was a really fun game to watch with some amazing individual and team performances. Kaprizov with a circus goal from his knee, Bobby Brink with his first goal at home with the Wild, Yurov with a gutty goal, and a Michigan attempt from Hartman missed by just inches.

Really exciting to see this team coming together with the recent acquisitions.

Amazing how a team can beat a playoff team in Utah 5-0 then a day later play a non playoff team in the Flyers who happened to play last night and lose 3-2 in a shootout. Overtime they basically were on the penalty kill. 2 shots on goal in the first period. Wally wants that second goal back. Positive note. Third game in a row where they were the better team at faceoffs
