All Things 2025/26 College Football Transfer Portal Thread

I think its done the other way around, I don’t think you just add as many as you want and then go and try to make room.
I might be wrong, but isn't that what we're doing right now? Bring in more than we can keep, then get rid of some?

Correct. With players being paid, getting NIL, and being able to transfer whenever they want, it's totally fair for schools to also be able to tell kids they aren't good enough and need to move on. This isn't 2000, which doesn't seem 25 year ago.

Coaches, players, and families are the lease surprised when this happens. They know.

Fans, not so much.
They absolutely tell some kids to leave.
Ultimately the kid has to agree to give up the scholarship though. Sure you can tell him he’s not going to play ever, but only first year coaches can cut players, even then they can still attend school on scholarship if they want to.

No they don’t. Scholarships are year to year. 3 years ago I posted about this, my first post on this site, and you were the same person that gave me flack about it then. You clearly don’t know any athletes that this has happened to. To be clear, I’m not ripping on PJ for this. Players gained some freedom with the portal, and lost some security. I wouldn’t even bother to comment on the transfers if I didn’t see so many posters here rip on kids leaving, saying things like “players these days have no commitment, no patience”…they don’t all have a choice. The truth is, unless you know the player you have no idea why they are looking elsewhere, it’s insanely hard to transfer laterally when you have no game film! Players and their families aren’t dumb they know this. A very few leave for more money. QB’s leave because ultimately there is only room for one. Zach Annexstad was a UDFA with Tampa Bay. I’m guessing Athan and Jacob Clark will both be UDFA’s as well.
