All Things 2025-2026 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Like a fool I am about to tune in again today against the Heat.

Edit: watched the Heat just run, run and run against the Pistons in their last game. Not today. Wolves made them grind it out.
Also…..The Wolves improved to 15-1 this season when holding opponents to 112 points or less.

Pistons on the 2nd night of a back to back, hosting the Knicks who have lost their last 3 games.
Suns play the Rockets in Houston.
Nuggets are playing the 76er’s in Philly
Hornets at Thunder

Hornets at Thunder
OKC is stacked at PG with SGA and Cason Wallace. Ajay Mitchell is so talented, he's still earning 20 minutes a night at PG even playing behind those guys.

Would love to trade for him but can't imagine OKC will make any deals that might make teams in the West better.

Any interest?

We're apparently one of the teams that called to inquire about the cost. It would be tough to match contracts and probably cost us McDaniels.

ATL in: Randle ($30M), McDaniels ($25M) & Dilly ($6M)

MIN in: Young ($45M), Okongwu ($15M) & 2026 FRP

C Gobert / Beringer / Sikorsky
PF Okongwu / Reid
SF TSJ / Ingles / Juzang
SG Edwards / DDV / Clark
PG Young / Conley / Hyland

I know we need a PG and backup C badly but SF looks pretty bleak, too, if you remove Jaden from the equation. It actually sounds like a deal to send Young to WAS has a ton of steam.

Thanks🤠

I find Jayden to be underwhelming he’s never developed into a consistent offensive player/rebounder,

We need two Top tier players to have any chances and Randle isn’t good enough to be a legit Robin, he’s an Alfred. You’re going to end up weaker somewhere, if you do any type of ballet move.

I’d bel shocked if Young would agree/want to go to Washington and that perennial dumpster fire.

That would be such a terrible trade for the Wolves. Young is always hurt, plays zero D, flops as much as SGA, and makes way too much money.

Oh, I agree. It's a terrible deal for the Wolves for all the reasons you mentioned. I was just trying to find a deal that would even work financially for us. I do really like Okongwu as a young C/PF and the roster flexibility he would provide.

I agree with NYC, though...I'm not adverse to sending out McDaniels if the right deal presents itself. It's just nearly impossible to make a move to fill one hole on the roster without digging another.

the only benefit of it is its an expiring contract with a player option so you're at least not locked in "long term". Trading McDaniels is a terrible move though given your minimal number of solid guard/wing defenders on this team who actually play defense nightly, especially given you're now making PG an absolute negative from a defensive standpoint.

Atlanta doesn't want a like for like contract deal unless its all expiring as they're blowing up the team to rebuild

Considering how weak the EC is, I actually think ATL is going all in with moving Trae. They have been significantly better without him this year and their backcourt of Daniels/NAW has been very good on both sides of the ball.

If they can dump Trae's $48M contract for next season, combined with Porzingis' $30M expiring contract, they will have a ton of Cap space to add significant talent around Jalen Johnson, Okongwu, Risacher and their deep guard rotation.

It should be an interesting trade deadline for a lot of teams. I'm sure Adam Silver and the NBA are working feverishly to coordinate a trade bringing Giannis to the Lakers in exchange for Vanderbilt, Vincent, Knecht and a SRP.

All the teams above the Wolves playing tonight.
Nuggets visit the Celtics.
OKC at Utah
Lakers at Spurs tonight. Both teams on the 2nd night of a back to back.
Houston is at Portland tonight and Friday.

Marc steins website says Trae was interest in wolves, wolves said no thanks. And wolves willing to trade dilly
From Jake Fischer at Yahoo Sports:

"I've been told pretty emphatically this week that Minnesota is not only uninvolved on the Young front but also isn't chasing any high-priced guards.

It sounds as if the Wolves, should they make a move to enhance their backcourt, are much more focused on adding a mid-tier-salaried player at the position. They can easily combine Mike Conley Jr.’s $10.7 million expiring contract and second-year guard Rob Dillingham's $6.5 million to absorb incoming salary in the mid-level-exception range and could conceivably add a few more end-of-roster players if they need to go a little higher.

I have heard, by the way, that parting with Dillingham is indeed on the table. The Wolves were certainly aggressive in acquiring the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft to select Dillingham, but he simply hasn't been able to fill Minnesota’s playmaking needs as quickly as hoped and could well benefit from a change of scenery."

Also:

"Trae Young's camp has proposed the Minnesota Timberwolves and Brooklyn Nets as attractive trade destinations as he and the Atlanta Hawks work on his exit, but neither team are currently interested in a deal.

The Wolves have a clear need at point guard as Rob Dillingham has been unable to emerge as a successor to Mike Conley Jr. However, the Wolves would need to send out substantial salary that would compromise their rotation in order to acquire a high-salaried guard such as Young. Minnesota is prioritizing a more affordable guard."

Seems like a disconnect in the front office and with finchy. I just don't know how you trade into first round, 8th overall, for a guy you don't play?

Kudos to you...this is an excellent observation and something that I've yet to see discussed anywhere. It's certainly a bit of a head scratcher.

Most agree that KOC played a role in the Vikings' selection of JJM so you'd likely assume that Finch had input on Dilly. And if he didn't, your comment regarding a potential "disconnect" carries even more water.

It sure would be interesting to see someone like Jon K. ask Connelly and/or Finch about this dynamic. I think it's more likely that Connelly just completely whiffed on his evaluation of Dilly and Finch believes he simply doesn't play winning basketball for a team built to win now.

Bones Hyland contract decision is today. Going to assume Wolves will guarantee it.

Edit: Wasn't aware Gordon and Braun are back now for the Nuggets. 2nd game back for each, looks like. On minute restrictions.
