All Things 2024 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

Couple of notes/rumors:

* Vikings are meeting today with Dallas Turner and Byron Murphy.

* CHI is very interesting in trading up from #9 to grab Marvin Harrison Jr to pair him with Williams at #1.

Is Dallas Turner too good to turn down at #11?

To me, he'd be the dream pick at 11. He's not expected to get past ATL unless Odunze is there and then they have a decision to make. Bijan, London, Odunze and Pitts would be nice targets for Kirk.

If we don't make a move for a QB, this would be a nice talent infusion to our DL:

11. DE Dallas Turner
23. DT Murphy/Newton

Sorry, that was a dumb question on my part. I was thinking of Brock Bowers.

An elite DE should definitely be considered.

As soon as Bowers gets past #5, he immediately becomes the best value on the board IMO. If he stays healthy, he should be a monster. With the NYJ adding to their OL in FA, he makes too much sense for them at #10.

I don't know enough about Bowers to say, but at the very least it seems he's a willing and able blocker? That would be a big step in the right direction.

The last time there was a TE that came out with this kind of hype it was Kyle Pitts who was essentially NOT a TE by any reasonable definition. If you're just a big receiver, you aren't deceiving the defense one bit. And Pitts has been a non-factor basically.

Pitts has been a dud but I'm curious to see how they use him with a viable QB. Bowers is a willing blocker with great hands and speed to burn. Injuries are a concern, though.

When was the last time any high profile TE drafted early in 1st turned out to be a great player? Hockenson is the closest and he's already on the roster and now getting paid a lot of money.

Even if he's available at 11, Bowers makes zero sense for the Vikings.

I thought we were just talking about Bowers being drafted high in general. Hell no, the Vikings should have less than zero interest in drafting Bowers.

My point actually applies to both. TE's and interior OL should not be taken in the 1st round, or at least not until the very end of the 1st, no matter how good they are.

Roll with Darnold

Pump up the defense, get another Guard, and let’s see how good KOC really is.

Jayden Daniels sets private meetings with 2 NFL franchises

As we approach the 2024 NFL draft, one of the biggest questions surrounds where Jayden Daniels will be selected.

The former LSU quarterback and 2023 Heisman winner has been projected to go as high as second overall, but there could be some potential suitors outside of the Washington Commanders.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Daniels has also set private meetings this week with a pair of quarterback-needy teams in the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings.

The Giants hold the sixth pick while the Vikings pick 11th, but the latter has been considered a potential trade-up candidate to get a signal-caller.

Daniels is one of the top quarterback prospects in the cycle and could be the second off the board behind Caleb Williams. Which team ultimately selects him, however, remains to be seen.

Continues to be some smoke around the possibility of a Vikings (#11) and Falcons (#8) pick swap as punishment to Atlanta for tampering in the pursuit of signing Cousins in Free Agency. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here.

I had first heard the notion on one of the Vikings podcasts several weeks ago but they downplayed it thinking nothing MAJOR would really happen, the Vikings weren't bitching too loudly, not much of a sniff. But it's picking up steam that this could happen.

If the Vikings really DO want to trade up for the QB at the top of their list, this is kind of a game-changer; that #8 pick will go a LOT further in putting together an attractive package for moving up, likely would guarantee they won't have to give up that 2025 1st rounder.

Could a Falcons-Vikings Pick Swap Be Announced Just Before The Draft?

That’s not smoke, steam, or any other noun. That’s Florio draft rube clickbait, and I won’t give it an undeserving click.

If something like that happens, fine. No reason to expect it.

I hope it's true but much of the steam has come from Florio speculating.

No doubt, and Florio is largely an ass-clown, but the league has definitely made it clear in the last several years that the penalties for tampering were going to be more and more severe. I thought the hit for the Cardinals last year in just pursuing Gannon for their HC was a little stiff, and you could argue this is a bigger deal than that was?

I'd be surprised if there wasn't something in the way of pick compensation.

I take what Florio says with a grain of salt. He's a big Vikings rube. Feels like he's trying to wish it into existence.

I clicked it twice, just out of spite.

I doubt you did. And even then I’m not even sure I’d bet against them knowing you own both. But maybe not and I don’t know for sure

It took about 15 - 20 seconds to click on the link both via phone & computer, using different WiFis.

You're covered.

You’ve got the world figured out, don’t you? Just that easy!

Indeed, zero percent chance that they’re able to track both those devices with cookies, which you agreed to allow on both devices, and know they both belong to the same user. Unpossible!

One of the devices does not belong to me.
