Morneau said it was 99% Margot’s choice and not a called play; he looked safe in real time and on the replay as well, it took an incredible play by the third baseman to field and transfer the throw in onemotion to get him.

The gut playing third is a SS and came over from the Os in the Burns trade; a regular third baseman doesn’t make the play.
 

Twins bats explode in the 7th with AK & Buck bak yo back doubles and Jeffers HR went over the fence by literally a couple feet - Yelich just missed snagging it.

Stewart is fun to watch - what a great arm.
 

Watch Correra’s basket catch in medium deep left field to see a man with good feet and an even better glove.

AK with a 4-4 day, two doubles and a triple in his last AB, with a walk to boot.

His swing looks pitch perfect - stay healthy and you’ll be in the lineup more often than not.
 

AK with 4 hits incl. a 2b & 3b. Need him to contribute with Lewis out. Dude still has a sweet swing. Hope he can get the power back.

Definitely was his choice. He's gotta know better. I don't like the move either way in the 4th inning.

In addition, it's nice to see Buxton hitting the ball well. Seems the past few years he's been an all or nothing kind of hitter. Home runs are great and he'll get his but just hit the ball hard somewhere. And he's doing it so far.

A little bit. The bases were loaded and you bring in a pinch hitter in the 4th inning. You're playing for more than just 1 run.

True, but it was a one run game at the time and we were scuffling for hits at the time.
 



Huge for the Twins if Kiriloff can click in this season.
Marlins 0-7. Arraez 0.556 ops. Gordon 0.727 ops with limited at bats.
 


Lots of guys scuffling, including our own. Jeffers off snide today but Farmer, Wallner, Kepler, Julian and Margot have been really, really struggling.

Happy birthday to former Twins pitcher Darrell Jackson. The Arizona State alumnus pitched nine no-hit innings in his professional debut at double-A Orlando on April 14, 1978. (Manager Johnny Goryl went to the pen in the 10th and Orlando eventually won in 12 innings.)

In Jackson’s fourth major league start on July 7th of that year he pitched a three-hit shutout for a 1-0 Twins win in Oakland. A’s pitcher Rick Langford also went all nine innings, allowing just one unearned run in the top of the fifth. That’s a good old-fashioned pitchers’ duel!
 

For now, think you just keep Kiriloff in LF and Santana at first and hope Kepler starts hitting. Maybe platoon him and Castro. Be so nice to have Lewis' bat in the lineup.

most players go through streaks and slumps. If a guy has a bad week in June or July, it's not a big deal. but if a guy has a bad week to start the season, it gets magnified.

in the end, most hitters wind up where they're "supposed" to be. If you're a .250 hitter, you wind up hitting close to .250 and so forth.

and the opposite is true. Kirilloff will not be this hot all season. he's going to have a bad week somewhere along the way. it's the nature of the sport. in 1970 Brant Alyea had 7 RBI in the opening game of the season. he ended the season with 61 RBI - meaning he had 54 RBI the rest of the season.

beware the Short Sample Size.

It's almost better if he doesn't hit any HR's. It seems like as soon as he does, he starts trying to pull everything 500 feet.
 

in other news - the (goodbye to Oakland) A's announced a deal to play their home games at their Triple-A park in Sacramento CA for the next three seasons, with an option for 2028 if the new ballpark in Vegas is not ready on time.

the Sacramento park seats 10,000 but can be expanded to seat 14,000 with additional seating in the outfield. other improvements (lighting, clubhouse facilities) will be made to bring the park up to MLB and MLBPA standards.

the Triple-A club will continue to use the same park. so there will be two teams using the same park - have fun scheduling that mess.

I'm pretty sure they won't need to expand out to 14,000 seats--can't imagine any NoCal Athletic fans making the trek out to Sacramento with the way things are ending in Oakland.
 

did some more reading about the A's situation.

apparently the A's were receiving something in the vicinity of $67-Million a year in local TV rights. they are expected to retain most of that while playing in Sacramento.

So one of the worst teams in baseball will make more TV money than the Twins while playing in a minor-league park.

nobody knows exactly what the Twins are getting this year for local TV, but it's been estimated to be in the $40 to $45-million range.
 

Looks like we miss Bieber this series. That is a good thing.

Oh, I get it. I tend to overreact to these things. What I will say is that few of these guys haven't hit at all in Ft. Myers either (Margot, Wallner and Farmer, I'm looking at you). It's becoming more than a week or 10 day thing.

Yeah, gonna be pretty quiet in that stadium. I believe a former A's general manager of some notoriety said that's what losing sounds like.

The Marlins are now 0-7, Arraez is hitting .185 and their young, good starting pitcher, Eury Perez is out the rest of the year while he has Tommy John surgery.

I will say the Twins look to be in much better shape right now than the Marlins.
