After watching him dismantle my Coyotes, I just don’t think the Bison even on their best day can slow down MSU’s QB. That kid is a stud worth a watch if you’re not doing anything Monday night.

Hard to bet against an MVFC team vs Big Skam team until a Big Skam team actually wins one. That said, I hope it's Cats by a 1000.

D3 National Championship --

North Central College (illinois) 41, Mount Union 25

(from ESPN) Luke Lehnen accounted for five touchdowns Sunday night and North Central beat Mount Union 41-25 to win its third Division III national championship.

The Cardinals (15-0) appeared in their fifth consecutive Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.

Lehnen threw two of his four touchdown passes to Jacob Paradee and has 162 in his career, tied with John Matocha (D-II Colorado School of Mines, 2019 to 2023) for college football's all-divisions record.

Mount Union's Tyler Echeverry ran 29 yards untouched to open the scoring -- the first time North Central has trailed this season.

Lehnen, who went 57-2 over his college career, threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Myles Walton to make it 7-7 with 4:35 left in the first quarter. It gave Lehnen 159 career TD passes, breaking Braxton Plunk's (Mount Union, 2019 to 2023) D-III record.

After the Purple Raiders failed to convert on fourth down deep in North Central territory, Lehnen scored on a 16-yard run about seven minutes into the second quarter to make it 14-7 and the Cardinals led the rest of the way.

Mount Union (14-1) made trips into the red zone on four consecutive possessions but scored just once, a 30-yard field goal by Ivan Maric with 3:57 remaining in the first half.

The Purple Raiders (75) and North Central (47) have won a combined 122 consecutive regular-season games.

Mount Union has won 13 D-III championships in 23 title-game appearances, both of which are records. North Central -- which captured its first title in 2019, the first championship-game berth in program history -- beat the Purple Raiders 28-21 in the 2022 title game.

Echeverry, who had 68 yards rushing and a touchdown on eight carries in the first quarter, finished with 20 carries for 83 yards.

Why was that game on a Sunday night? Seems like a horrible time to play it.

SJU will never win another championship until they get rid of their coaching group. Mount Union has a coaching tree all the way to the pros. SJU's head coach, fasching's, was coaching girls basketball and football in the 1980s, at Cathedral HS, he got fired and the Saint John's coach, brought him in to be a recruiter and be in charge of the weight room. Good luck with that.

can you believe they just took a transfer portal QB again as well tom????
and they are letting their best defensive player come back for a 5th year?

what kind of program is SJU running over there???

in case you missed it:

FCS National Championship Game:

NDSU 35, Montana State 32

NDSU controlled the 1st half and led 21-3.
Montana State scored twice in 3rd qtr to make it 21-18.
NDSU scored twice in 4th qtr, but Montana State matched the TD both times. Montana State's last TD came with 1:32 left to play. NDSU ran the clock down to 10 seconds, then punted. the ball rolled dead as the clock went to 0.

in the final stats, NDSU had 401 yds offense to 393 for MTST.
NDSU QB Cam Miller had 199 yds passing and 121 rushing. MTST QB Tommy Mellott had 195 passing and 135 rushing.
NDSU WR Bryce Lance (brother of Trey) had 9 receptions for 107 yds & 1 TD.

really entertaining game.

(there is another thread on the game, which is mainly serving as a vehicle for some posters to make fun of FCS. I choose to appreciate FCS for what it is - instead of criticizing it for what it is not.)

I don't make fun of the quality of the product. It's quite good.
I make fun of delusional Bison fans, of which I know many.

Son of Moorhead coach and older brother of Gopher 2027 QB target. Going to St Johns from North Dakota.

One that does not respect the other 8 QB's that have been in their program for 3-4 years and paying 30,000 dollars for an education. What a slap in the face to these student/athletes that are told they will have a chance to play in Div III. Coaching staff are babysitters and not football coaches. No development, Lets just take in guys from JC or higher Division, over the players who put in the time. Big Red is Dead.

FFS, if they have EIGHT quarterbacks, the vast majority were never going to play anyway. Maybe transfer to Crown or Martin Luther or some other UMAC school if you want to get on the field.

In this day and age in college sports at EVERY level it should be rather obvious:

Tomorrow is promised to no one. Does not matter 1 iota their tuition bill.

I would disagree, this mentality, is fine, when you are getting paid for your time and effort. Not when you are in a Div III, program. At SJU 1/4 of the school population is on the football team. The coaches use football to supply the school, 30,000 a pop per year. You loose that the school has a hard time surviving. If you are bringing in several QB's per year with a carrot, knowing you will be bringing in transfers, when your starter, who is 25 and in college for 6 years, instead of the 18 yo kids that committed to you. It is evil. The reality, their record would be the same using their own players, but there is no development. The kids figure it out after a few years.

You are confusing a "mentality" with a "reality".

SJU had an enrollment of 1462 in 2023. A quarter of that would be 365, and while their roster is big it's not nearly that big. One can quite legitimately argue that an influx of transfers changes Division III football from what it has traditionally been and not in a positive way, but arguments based in fact are always more persuasive.

A walk-off home run is pretty cool, a walk-off punt is elite. Congrats to NDSU

St. John's is not a typical football program. going back to the Gagliardi days, they would let anyone join the team and would not 'cut' anyone, allowing them to dress well over 100 players for home games. but even back in the 1970's (when I was at Augsburg), St. John's didn't go deeper in their bench than any other team.

you have your 1st string, 2nd string, special teams, the scout team players, and then you have a bunch of people wearing uniforms on the sidelines during home games.

If Joe Blow goes to St. John's and joins the FB team - unless he is completely delusional - Joe understands his place on the pecking order. if he's the #5 or #6 QB, he's not playing unless there is some catastrophe. so that transfer QB is not robbing the #6 QB of playing time - #6 was never going to get playing time. and #6 should understand that - again, unless he is delusional.

This is true. This whole notion of hating transfers that start over 4-year rostered kids is leftover youth travel ball parent stuff.
