All Things 2024 College Football D2 and D3 Thread

Football has the highest number of participation in the state of all sports. SCSU has been slaughtered with poor decisions by left wing leaders. They cut the football program due to financial and legal issues with women sports. They should have joined the Summit when they had the chance. This would have bee great for the school and the community.
SCSU has been shrinking because kids don't want to live in the cesspool that is St. Cloud.

Didn't Schwanns just go out of business? I am just thinking these state schools are getting less aid and don't have big donors. Declining enrollment with numbers down for hs football at least in the Midwest area something has to give. I think St Cloud added soccer after they dropped football and have become a wrestling and hockey school.
The home delivery went out of business. The frozen food business is still thriving. And the Schwanns family sold the business years ago. Big family litigation when the old man died.

SCSU has been shrinking because kids don't want to live in the cesspool that is St. Cloud.
I've seen certain allusions about St Cloud on this forum over the years that I've never heard or seen anywhere else. Granted it's not my neighborhood, but the few times I've been to St Cloud, I've never gotten the impression that it's any different that any other similarly sized Minnesota or Midwest city.

St.Cloud is rough, but probably not a discussion for this forum.

A pleasant day in Northfield. I checked out the Johnnies/Knights. Should have gone to the Saints/Oles instead (or as well).

Carleton has a great stadium, but the stands are all on one side. It's "old school" - concrete with narrow halls inside. I think the "old school" ones have a much better vibe than new ones with rows of aluminum benches. BTW, I'm told this field was completely underwater in the spring.

Thanks SON for all your posts - you're my info line for MIAC football. What's the inside thoughts on Bethel vs St. Johns?

In the winters through friend connections while in HS, I would spend a lot of time taking cuts in the temporary batting cages underneath the stadium.

Also has an indoor track.

St Johns won 45-20 @ bethel earlier this year.

Bethel threw 4 INTs which obviously hurts a ton. I think there were 8 total turnovers (5 for bethel, 3 for St. John’s)

Pretty clearly top 2 teams in the conference. Should be a good one. I might even go if weather is OK and my old man is up to it.

let's look at some numbers:
Bethel & St. John's are 1st & 2nd in the conference in most team stats.

Points per game on offense: Bethel 52.2 / St. John's 46.6

pts/gm allowed on defense: St. John's 10.6 / Bethel 12.1

Total offense per gm: St. John's 524.9 / Bethel 482.0
Rushing off per gm: Bethel 175.6 / St. John's 155.9
Passing off per gm: St. John's 369.0 / Bethel 306.4

Total defense (yds allowed): Bethel 194.6 / St. John's 240.4
Rushing def per gm: Bethel 22.4 / St. John's 41.6 (allowing 22 yds rushing/gm - that is nuts)
Passing def per gm: Bethel 172.1 / St. John's 198.9 (3rd)

Individual Leaders:
Bethel:
rushing - Aaron Ellingson 65.8 yds/gm (conference only)
passing - Cooper Drews 282.3 yds/gm - 76% - 33TD, 8 Int
receiving - Joey Kidder 76-984 (109.3 yds/gm) 15 TD

St. John's:
rushing - Will Blakey 41.2 yds/gm
passing - Aaron Syverson 348.9 yds/gm -77% - 38TD, 4 Int
receiving - Dylan Wheeler 66-950 (105.6) - 16 TD
------------------------

what does it mean? just on numbers, this is the best offense in the conference vs the best defense. should be a heck of a game.

I was a bit surprised to see the Bethel/Concordia score so lopsided. Concordia was the only team to play SJU to a one-score game all season and actually led most of the game before a 14pt Johnnie rally late in the game.

I know the first Bethel/SJU game was earlier in the season - it looks like Bethel is on a roll and hopefully the championship game is a great contest.

Thanks SON. Those are some incredible numbers. Bethel giving up only 22 yards per game in rushing, with St. John's only 41. Plus the QB stats of over 76% and 77% passing completion.

It would be a great game to watch.

But - St. John's puts its video feed behind a paywall. If you want to watch the game on a stream, it will cost you $15. and I refuse to pay that out of principle. the bleeping D3 playoffs offer most games on a free stream, but bleeping St. John's thinks their home games are worth $15? bleep that.

I started streaming the game at the beginning of the second half just to see Concordia throw a pick 6 on the first play. That made the score 28-3 and effectively ended the game so I turned it off. Bethel got another pick 6 in the first half to help get to that score. Bethel's defense ate them up. The Royals turned over the ball twice in the first half and the Cobs got zero points from those.

Bethel has the top defense in the conference for yards, while the Johnnies have the top defense for scoring. Those are reversed for offense. The game on Sat should be a good battle...but to SON's point, I won't be paying $15 to watch it.

St Johns always has issues with Concordia. Its bizarre.

It should be a fun game. Would imagine a nice crowd in Collegeville Saturday. Current weather looks downright balmy for mid-November. Would like it dry and calm so the teams can be at their best.

In the past it made sense, Concordia ran an offense that was atypical to the rest of the league, which required extra preparation. Now that Concordia has moved to a "modern" offense, I'm not sure what to attribute it to.

Their coach payed their 6th year QB to return to play this year. NIL money set up by the J-Club. Both the QB and head coach presented to practice wearing mink coats this year. So much for the Benediction tradition. Big Red's old ways are dead.

lol

In the first Bether vs. St. Johns game the St. Johns QB made some pin point passes. If he can do the same again St. Johns is going to be hard to beat. Every blitz Bethel did the QB seemed to hit the open man. However, if the QB is not "insane" like he was the first game it should be close. I felt Bethel made it closer than the score presented. If Bethel's QB plays as well as he has against other opponents than watch out. This should be a great game. I hate that St. Johns makes people pay to watch.

Thank god! We were wondering where you were. We figured maybe you wondered where the pee in your toilet went and drowned looking for it or tried to smell the inside of a plastic grocery bag and suffocated.

how else can they afford to pay their 6th year QB? and a 47 year old air force vet?
gotta pay to play....you and tommy boy should attend the game together!

interestingly enough the Bethel QB was a Johnnie last season. He would have been the heir to the position next year. but he has been playing lights out since the 1st johnnies game

Thanks SON for all your posts - you're my info line for MIAC football. What's the inside thoughts on Bethel vs St. Johns?
I think it will be a much better game as Bethel had a new HC and OC this year and they should be much better than earlier in the season.
