All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

I have not been reading through this thread, curious if there is talk about actually committing to Darnold long term? This is the first week I’ve contemplated it. What could you get for JJ McCathy?

Darnold was sign for 1 year only. JJ McCathy is all but the starter next year. There been no committing to Darnold in 2025 and beyond.

I'm not sure how they can just toss Darnold away with the way he's playing. Especially if they win a playoff game or 2

the chiefs hit the up-right and it goes through.

They remind me of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Can they ever not get a bounce in their favor?

Broncos have a 35 yard FG to beat the Chiefs. Blocked. Chiefs win.

Raiders have a 40-something FG to beat the Chiefs. Inexplicable fumble. Chiefs win.

Chiefs shank a GW FG vs Chargers off the upright. Clangs through. Chiefs win.

Nauseating.

I have zero idea if there is or will be any serious plan for him beyond this year.

On KFAN they were talking that Darnold has played his way into probably a 3yr $100M contract next year.

Would Kwesi and the executive leadership entertain that?

You don't think they can win one this year? :(
We will be going on the road to a San Fran, Seattle, Tampa bay........I think we'd be screwed in a playoff atmosphere on the road.

It sucks with our record that we are probably going on the road.

The only way retaining Darnold is even a discussion is if they at least make the Super Bowl. They built this entire plan on having a QB they pay around $10 million for and spending the $$ saved elsewhere. Giving Darnold 3/$100 puts them right back where they were with Kirk Cousins. Non-starter really. But if they win the Super Bowl they might not have a choice.

You're not tossing him away. He's a free agent. He can sign wherever he wants. I'm fine offering him 2/$20 million to return and compete with McCarthy. I'm guessing he will decline that offer.

I go up to $25 a year. That is a great deal this day and age for a good, not great, QB. I don’t think he takes that but if he did, then look for a sweetheart deal for JJ.

Whatever they do it's a good situation either way. Darnold just seems to be a good fit for this team. It will be interesting to see what they do

Before this last weekend slate of games, I'd heard on a pod from one of those outlets that tracks a shitload of parameters while grading "luck"; as in which teams are most lucky and least lucky.

Not surprising, the Chiefs were the #1 rated team in terms of luck... and the Vikings were #2.... Hmmmm... I guess they've been fortunate to some extent but #2?

The Dazzling Darnold

third-highest passer rating in the NFL behind Lamar Jackson and Jared Goff.

His 3,299 passing yards rank fifth in the NFL.

His completion percentage is seventh-best.

His 28 passing touchdowns slot him third.

Darnold’s five-touchdown day was the first for a Vikings quarterback in 20 years; sorry Kirko Chainz, you didn’t have one in 6 years🥳

It’s stupid. Winning your division should guarantee getting into the playoffs but shouldn’t guarantee you a top 4 seed.

It actually was a pull hook as opposed to a "shank".

For a golfer equally miserable.
I can fix a pull hook right on the golf course. A shank requires a trip to the clubhouse bar.

Nothing like that dirty hosel shank to scare the shit out of you; you never know where it comes from and it can be a bitch to get rid of. Usually comes from gripping the club too damn hard

I literally laughed out loud when I heard we had signed Darnold as our bridge QB. I can own that.

I have no idea if the glass slipper eventually falls off but what he's doing this year is some pretty amazing shit.

If Stafford retires as most believe he will, I would expect the Rams to make a strong push for Darnold.

How we approach the QB position in the offseason should be fascinating, especially what KOC's thoughts are on it.
