All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

This was always going to be a rebuilding year. We got trapped into thinking great things may be possible by an unexpected start.

Need a good draft and some free agent spending to really make noise next season.

This will be a nothing season, but I’m gonna watch every game and enjoy the season.

All true!

but we don't have much of a draft as our picks are few. That sucks balls.

I'm talking the secondary. They suck balls.

You've been disagreeing.
My GERD is getting the better of me, so stomach bille naturally made me think of you🥳

You’re conflating Grasshopper; we had a discussion after one game, where you lambasted Murphy or Bynum and I simply refuted that Notion from the Zumbrota Ocean, by posting their above average score from PFF - who hopefully knows more about this footballing stuff than us.

I do realize Ws are an elusive commodity for you, so here you go -

I could be wrong, I often am. Belch.

Feel better now, My Silly Little Goose 🪿?

I tried telling you after the Green Bay second half where Love basically threw for 300 yards in the half. Thankfully, he was rusty the first half.

I got the smiley face and an explanation.

It was then explained that Detroit is just a great offense.

There is now no doubt. At least we are on the same page now.

All is good.

I agree with a lot of what is being said.

**this was expected to be a transition season - even more so when McCarthy went down. the consensus was that the Vikes were building toward 2025 when they will have lots of cap room. any success this year is gravy.

**KOC may be a good coach, but he can't turn Sam Darnold into Pat Mahomes. Darnold is who he is.

**If the defense gets to the QB, they look good. If the defense does not get to the QB, they look....different.

**If Darrisaw is out for multiple weeks, that changes the equation.

**10 games left. of those opponents, 7 currently have winning records. lot of games that could go either way. If I had to bet, I'll put the final record at 10-7.

Unfortunately, I think we win about 3 of those 10 games.

And it sucks, because McCarthy would then get some games at the end.

Darrisaw more than likely done, Dallas Turner doing nothing, and McCarthy out for the year just sucks.

I didn't do this in the previous post because records will change before the end of the season.
but - remaining schedule with current record of opponent:

Colts 4-3
Jaguars 2-5
Titans 1-5
Bears 4-2
Cardinals 3-4
Falcons 4-3
Bears 4-2
Seahawks 4-3
Packers 5-2
Lions 5-1

Packers and Lions appear to be the best teams at this point. Titans and Jaguars the worst. and 6 teams somewhere in the middle. Those 6 games will tell the tale of the season.

Darrisaw officially done for the year!

SUCKS

By the way, back on 4/28, I got Kevin O'Connell at 30-1 for AP Coach of the Year. He would have to be one of the clear front runners right now, wouldn't he? There's a long ways to go but it could still happen.

Full disclosure, I also took the following, just as flyers really:

Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals) 22-1
Sean Payton (Broncos) 20-1
Shane Steichen (Colts) 15-1
The books got you....

I've been trying to tell everyone, but the resistance has been quite funny.

Up and down the field these teams go.

This rams offense blows. I know they have a couple of guys back, but we have major, major, problems defensively.
Puka is their JJ. Stafford was looking for him every play.

It's also possible that the Rams are much better that their record when they get their two stud WRs back.

Kupp sux balls (favorite catchphrase of our Vince Lombardi), as he’s only accomplished this -

Kupp had a breakout season in 2021 when he became the fourth player since the AFL-NFL Merger to lead the league in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Kupp received the Offensive Player of the Year Award and was the MVP of Super Bowl LVI; Jerry Rice is the only other wide receiver to accomplish those feats in a career.

Ever hear of this Jerry Rice guy? Was he any good?

I could be wrong but I don't recall a single rushing play called to the left side after Darrisaw's injury. O'Neill is a great RT but we just became a lot easier to defend as an offense.

We're about to really see what Darnold is truly capable of...or isn't. Hockenson's return also gets devalued slightly as we'll need to keep our TEs in more frequently to help pass block.

The travesty of the Lynx championship game seems to have rejuvenated the MN sports curse.

Christian Darrisaw tore both ACL and MCL; T.J. Hockenson activated

David Bakhtiari is the perfect Vikings replacement for Christian Darrisaw

Trade? Start the rookie? Vikings have options to replace Christian Darrisaw

Trade for Cam Robinson

Robinson, twice franchise-tagged by Jacksonville, is 29 years old and in the final year of his contract. Minnesota could try and acquire Robinson in a trade and have a starting-caliber tackle on the left side. It might be the only way the Vikings don't miss too much of a beat without Darrisaw. He might cost a high draft pick and he might be a rental. Would the Vikings entertain re-signing him if they are confident that Darrisaw will be good to go in 2025?

Give rookie Walter Rouse a chance

Head coach Kevin O'Connell raved about Rouse during training camp and the preseason. He's a mammoth person at 6-foot-6 and 313 pounds. The Vikings even said they'd consider playing him at guard because of his athleticism, but now may be the time to activate him and see what he can do. Keep in mind that the Rams just beat the Vikings despite having a rookie sixth-round pick starting at center.

Move Blake Brandel to left tackle

Brandel has started every game at left guard this season and his only action last season was at right guard. But in 2022 he worked in at left tackle in Weeks 10-14 when Darrisaw was dealing with concussion issues. It didn't go well, as he allowed 13 pressures and seven sacks while also getting flagged for three penalties in those five games.

And we already beat the Pack.

Darnold playing great. No one predicted 5-2, more like 2-5.

And while I gather this won't be a popular opinion, and I admit it could be dead wrong ..... I wouldn't be surprised if Goff and Stafford are the two best QBs we'll see this regular season?

That's not a valid excuse for poor play, of course

Kinda weird that we're playing 3 AFC South teams in a row? But hopefully should go 3-0, heading into Bears #1. Let's see how folks feel then :)

I will be very surprised if we go 3-0. The offense has bogged down and without Darrisaw, it's going to be way tougher.

I hope you are right.

goff and Stafford, but most of these throws are to wide open people.......and I mean, WIDE OPEN

it's pitch and catch for much of the time. Very concerning.

Washington just beat Chicago on a Hail Mary.

That was just plain awesome, particularly considering I have a healthy bet on the Bears season win total of UNDER 9.5 wins. Not sure I see 6 more wins on the Bears schedule, especially if the surging Cardinals manage to beat them next Sunday in Arizona. WOO HOO!

Bears deserved to lose with the goofy fumble to the OL where at the goal line🤦‍♂️

I forgot they no longer try the PAT if there's no time on the clock and it doesn't impact who wins/loses.

Didn't impact the final betting lines, either O/U which was well Under nor Commies -1.5. The lines were so fluid during the week, maybe some got the Bears +3 or +3.5 and caught a break so to speak, by the rule change.

I think it was implemented after the Minnesota Miracle.
