All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Other Games Thread

I read an article on Texas Tech NIL...it's nuts. They got the best player in softball to transfer for 1.05 million. 😲
I didn't know that....surprised they haven't had more success in football (and basketball for that matter) but i suppose Lubbock isn't much of an attraction.

It's a shithole, but there is $$$ there
Zero ties to Lubbock, TX, but probably closer than most and alum wouldn't contribute like they do (it's not one or two) if it were a shithole and most importantly they lacked college pride. I know lots of folks who are Tech grads and are elsewhere and super proud of their experience,. Not a big fan of the firm takes on which college towns are good and which ones somehow suck.

These lazy "this place sucks" takes are lame imo, as MSP (and U of M) isn't for everyone also as we know.

Side note, looking at a game later tonight, I was surprised to see that Jaden Henley has turned into quite a player at UNLV. 12.2pts/4rebs/1.7assists and 37% 3point shooting. Still just a junior. Sometimes kids develop! In terms of players that Ben brought in, he was the one wing who had the athleticism that you want to see in a big time player. He was plenty rough here, but....

Been there many times, definitely not a hot take. Proud people but still a shithole and definitely not accepting of outsiders or people who are not like them...I'll let you read between the lines.

I think most people on here saw his potential....what was unbelievable was his decision to transfer after getting nice minutes as a freshman. And adding insult to injury, he transferred to one of the worst programs in the country at the time (Depaul).

I was trying to remember who was on our roster in that really crappy year and had to look it up and had forgotten about him. I saw him play a couple times at DePaul but didn't even know he was at Vegas now.

BET always delivers. And plays so much better now on TV with every other conference playing in random arenas in random states year to year.

DePaul/Creighton is questionable basketball but the environment more than making up for it.

Texas Tech- though they have struggled to finish in the 2nd half, just has incredible spacing. They don't dribble around at all. If someone dribbles it is usually Hawkins to penetrate and dish. So fun to watch. Well coached with really good players, not superstars, other than Toppin.

Speaking of Toppin, if Pitino still had him, New Mexico would be a threat to get to the Final Four!
And mashburn!

I dunno, I think Fran deserves another year. He's a great guy, and Iowa is the toughest job in the league.

Am I doing this right?
Iowa City is just an awful, awful, desolate place. Cold. Flat. Filled with Iowans and corn. The "House that Lute Built" is a dump and as dead as its namesake.

It's a miracle he even made one NCAA tournament in his tenure. 7 gritty wins this year. Truly one of the elite coaching jobs I've ever seen-Seth Davis

You do this well.

They have some good sophomores that could come with. Add in Asuma, Eaglestaff, Terrance Brown, and a big and we'd have a pretty damn good team.
...or some pretty good sophomores that will develop into a conference champion if/when Niko stays there.
