All Things 2024-25 College Basketball D2 and D3 Thread

Down go the Gusties, previously undefeated in the MIAC! Carleton pulled off the 73-61 upset while defending home court in Northfield.

The Knights took a 41-28 lead into Halftime. GAC rallied to cut it 5 early in the 2nd, but Carleton weathered the storm to get it back to double digits and never looked back.

Extra sweet payback given how the 2024 ended in the Playoffs with a late game meltdown to the same opponent.

In the process, Carleton earns the #4 seed and will host their 1st Round Playoff game on Tuesday against either Augsburg or Concordia.

They also do St John's a solid, who can earn MIAC Co-Regular Season Championship banner with a win on Saturday at Bethel. Each now has 1 L, but Gustavus is done until the MIAC Semis, where they have already earned the #1 Seed.

Minnesota College Athletic Conference /NJCAA Region XIII Tournament Quarterfinals:
  • Rochester CTC Vs. Central Lakes (Brainerd), Feb. 28, 1 p.m.
  • Vermilion CC (Ely) Vs. Riverland CC (Austin), Feb. 28, 3 p.m.
  • MNC Mesabi Range (Virginia) Vs. M State CTC-Fergus Falls, Feb. 28, 5 p.m.
  • Ridgewater College (Willmar) Vs. MNC Rainy River (International Falls), Feb. 28, 7 p.m.

Previously in their only matchup of the MIAC Regular Season, #5 Augsburg beat #4 Carleton in a down to the wire game in Northfield 74-70.

It appeared in the Quarter Final of the Playoffs last night that more of the same was shaping up. The Knights jumped out to an early double digit lead, only to have the Auggies fight back and make it 1 possession with about 6 minutes left in the 1st Half.

It was still a battle until Carleton started to pull away mid-way through the 2nd have and wound up winning going away 73-57.

The Knights move on to face #1 GAC on Thursday at 5:00 PM.

#3 Hamline took out #6 Concordia 74-59. The head to #2 St John's for the 7:00 PM game on Thursday.

NSIC Quarterfinals at the Pentagon are set.
  • Southwest Minnesota State Vs. Winona State
  • Minnesota State Moorhead Vs. Augustana
  • Concordia St. Paul Vs. Minot State
  • Minnesota State Mankato Vs. St. Cloud State

In the UMAC, Bethany Lutheran and Northwestern advanced to the title game on Saturday.

In the 1st Semi, Carleton takes down Gustavus for the 2nd time in just over a week. 1st loss of the season in St Peter for the Gusties.

Following it online, the Knights went into Halftime ahead 41-38. Gusties got up by 7 at the 14:00 mark, 55-48.

From there the Knights took control, regained the lead just under 8 minutes and advanced to the Championship with a 75-64 win.

Watching it on my phone, Knights shot better and got a few critical loose balls. Gusties also were dreadful at the FT line, 7-18.

Knights on Saturday will travel to the winner of the Hamline-St John's nightcap.

Be there. Aloha.

I made the trek up 94W and took in the game. Place was packed.

It was never really in doubt from about the midway mark of the 1st Half.
