I think by end of the season, we might say that we would be willing to trade our whole 2022 draft for Christian Watson. And we were the ones who essentially handed Watson to the Packers. That draft is trending toward total disaster.

Well, I stayed awake during that thrilling pre-season game on Saturday.

I was basically interested to see if Jaren Hall would look any better. 4 of 7 passing for 49 yards and two rushes for 14 yards with only 1 sack. Looked like he made a real effort to get the ball out more quickly while playing behind the 3rd-string O-Line.

otherwise, a real snoozer. the Vikes' depth really drops off after the starters. they had better stay healthy this year or they're in trouble.
 

Cine not particularly standing out while playing with the 2nd team not a great sign. Had one good tackle, but whiffed on another. Wonder if he’s learned the playbook yet.

Some smart people wonder whether that purchase has had an effect on how much cash they can spend going forward on the Vikings.

The Boston Red Sox perennially have been among baseball’s highest-paying teams. But last year, the ownership group, Fenway Sports, put its English Liverpool soccer team up for sale, and this season reduced the Red Sox payroll to $154 million, 11th in baseball.

It’s unknown whether the Wilfs are trying to drag out extensions for Hockenson and wide receiver Justin Jefferson as long as they can because of a cash outlay for their soccer club. But it’s interesting.
 



49'ers have announced that Trey Lance is opening the season as the 3rd-string QB and they are "discussing options" for his future.

so - que the reckless speculation - would the Vikes consider picking up Lance IF the price was right? Could O'Connell and company develop him into a usable option?

What exactly is the right price for a third string quarterback? I would say maybe an eighth round draft pick…..
 





You can forget about Trey Lance to the Vikings. he now off to Dallas.

 


I am starting to suspect that the Vikes may try and do a new deal with Cousins - maybe a 2-year contract? If Cousins is not coming back, I don't see Mullens as the starter, so they would either have to draft or trade for a new QB for next season.

I just don't know how they make the cap work if they re-sign Cousins along with deals for JJ, Hockenson, etc. sounds like Hockenson and/or his agent are really playing hardball.

Love him or hate him, there's a good chance Kyler Murray is available next off-season.

The Cardinals' next 3-5 seasons are going to hinge entirely on how Murray plays (and acts) once he steps back on the field this season. With what is likely to be two VERY high first round picks next spring, the Cardinals could reload under a rising star in Murray with those picks or move on altogether and use that capital to try to hit the mother load with one of the two major QB prospects.

I'm about 80% "out" on Murray but the optimist in me says he still has incredible talent and he's a smart kid. All eyes are going to be on him this season, when he returns.
 

Why would anyone actually pay money to go to an NFL pre-season game these days. For most teams now, starters never see the field. A few years ago, you would at least see the starters into 3rd quarter of penultimate game.

Do Vikes still charge same price for pre-season as regular season?
 

I think if you buy a season ticket you have to buy the seat for the preseason home games too. IE, you're paying the face value for 10 games every year even if 2 or 3 of them are preseason. Of course, you can try to sell them.

It's mind boggling. I turned it on yesterday, saw we weren't even playing Nick Mullens, watched two plays, and shut it off. What is the point?
 

I would love to see them pick up a defensive tackle and linebacker, if they are serviceable.

The point was to play Hall and see if you can see anything. Mullens is backup qb who they know everything about.

I didn't want any part of seeing Mullens.

As an NDSU alum (and lived in Marshall for a few years), I was pulling for Lance more than most. He's certainly got some tools in the toolbox. But like Michael Lombardi says, when you're Momma pulls you from the crib, you're either a QB or you're not and Lance just doesn't seem to be. No harm in that, and lots of people get over-drafted and it's no fault of their own.

It's okay to acknowledge that someone isn't very good at their job. Somehow we got to a point where a mere job assessment has turned into an incredibly negative thing.

Heading into the second preseason game slate, going to be interesting to see the development of some of these younger QB's. O'Connell with the Raiders like I mentioned, and Clayton Tune with the Cardinals are a pair of later round picks I'm watching. Tune is looking pretty decent in Arizona and with Kyler Murray out for a little bit, he only has to beat out Colt McCoy to start games in PHX before Murray gets back. It's still a long shot but he looks the part.

Similarly with O'Connell in Vegas, Jimmy G is certainly no lock to start 17 games for the Raiders with his injury history. Standing between O'Connell and a lot of playing time is (shockingly) long-time backup Brian Hoyer. Ouch.

Hoyer is kind of like Udonis Haslem in the NBA. Like I get, there is experience there, but why give a roster spot to someone you would hate to have to play under any circumstances ever. Just make them coaches.

Terrible pick.

It's looking like he was a guy who was pretty athletic but flourished playing alongside a ton of talent. If you're spending a pick that early on a S, you can't miss.

Kwesi's first draft is about as bad as any Viking's draft I can remember.

Since the NFL moved to the 16 game schedule in 1978, it's been at most 2 Home preseason games as part of the 10 game package (never 3).

I'm not sure what happened when the Vikings were tabbed as a host for a London regular season games. Must have been a 9 game package, 7 regular season games and 2 preseason.
 

Apologies, I meant to say 1 (if 9 regular season home games) or 2 preseason home games (if only 8 regular).
 

Traded backup OL Lowe to Pats for 6th round.

Keeping Udoh then, I take it. Hope he played better against Cards than against Titans, because he played like a bum.

I suppose with both Darrisaw and O’Neil getting hurt last year they’re afraid of not having two guys who can step in at tackle. (Brandel being the other, who played for Darrisaw against Buffalo, but is listed as a backup Guard).
