All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

They kept Pagan all last year even though he was terrible. They signed him in the off-season even though he was terrible last year. This front office ain’t going to just let him go 5 weeks into the season.

My problem is how he’s treated. If he were the mop up guy in blowouts and expected to go 3-4 innings that would be fine. They treat him likes he’s some important part of the bullpen and protect him at all costs. No other low leverage reliever gets such treatment they are just interchangeable pieces. It’s just bewildering.

He's only put into anything close to a high leverage situation if they don't have any other choice. He has been the last non-long reliever in the bullpen. I'm not sure what you're getting it. I wish they'd get rid of him but if they're going to keep him, how he's being used seems appropriate.

new option in the bullpen - Brock Stewart. (called up from St. Paul). was a starter and reliever in the majors for a few years. career fell on hard times then had Tommy John surgery. trying to make a comeback with the Saints and has been throwing really well - 10 IP, 17K, 2BB, 1.74ERA with 2 saves.
supposed to have fastball hitting upper 90's.

to make room on the 40-man roster, Twins DFA'ed Trevor Megill.

My God

Until he figures his shit out get Miranda out of the middle of the order. Every AB is 2 pitches and weak contact.

Buxton lead off double and the guy pops up. You cant have a guy slugging like .270 in the middle of your order nightly.

Chicago and Cleveland getting drilled again tonight. AL Central the gift that keeps on giving!!
Detroit been on a bit of a run, not sure what that means.

Spencer Strider of the Braves, took a no no into the8th last night while fanning 13, setting a Braves record for most consecutive starts with 9+ Ks in a start - thus goes back to his September 1 start last season in his rookie year.

He’s only two of the MLB record of 11 in a row by Nolan Ryan- pretty amazing company to keep.

Correa gotta earn the contract at some point. Pitiful ABs

Ryan is fun to watch. Give up the rare singles in bulk today. Solano really let him down in the 5th. Great pitching to Rizzo and Judge and should have put up a zero.

Nats drilling the Mets tonight 5-0.

They’re all professional players and all want to win.

Guys do improve and Larnach can learn to hit off speed pitches - those ABs have been over three seasons, he’s been hurt all three seasons snd last year he was playing through sports hernias - that’s what his surgery was for last year - he had two of them.

AK hasn’t been eligible to come off the 60 day DL yet - I believe that is early next week (per The Athletic) - so we’ll see what happens then.

The info about AK was leaked by someone and that article originated in The Athletic yesterday (they got it from someone), as I was going to post bit later today.

I think they should drop Kepler, if no injuries pop up between now and then.

Forbearance Grasshopper🤠

Our bats always seem to get going on Ryan’s starts.

Obviously some coincidence to it(especially the 9 vs Yanks before he threw a pitch)

But I do think the way Ryan pitches helps that a lot. He throws strikes. He works fast. Rarely ever gives up long innings where hes constantly in trouble. Most of his runs allowed are instant damage homers due to his heater.

Gotta imagine players like playing games he pitches cause things are always moving.

Listening to the Yankees broadcast. Question of the night:. With tonite's win, Ryan will join which twins pitcher as the only twins pitchers to win their first five starts in a season?
Hint: This pitcher is well known for pitching in New York.

I'm going Johan Santana

Frank Viola….
Phil Hughes…..
Johan Santana….
Chuck Knoblach…..

First initial is J. Well know for playing in New York. Knoblauch couldn't even throw from first to second so definitely not him.

Another hint. He played on an amazin' team in New York

Born in Appleton Mn?

Just looked it up and u r right. Had forgotten that. Jerry Koosman is right. Won 20 games for the twins in '79 and 16 games in '80 for the twins.
