All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Could LA be interested in Gordon for some depth? Gotta feel like the Twins are shopping him around.

That video brought up a question that I don't know the answer to - does the clock reset when the pitcher steps off like he did at :51?
Yes, you get 2 disengagements (either a step-off or pick-off) per batter.

However, if a runner advances via SB, WP, PB, or balk, the disengagement count resets.

Im slightly optimistic. Now, most of that is because our division is blah per usual. And A LOT of the optimism hinges on health....which in Buxtons case we know is not gonna be the case.

But we have a solid rotation. We may lack a lefty but who cares. And most of the rotation has arms that could fall off any moment. But for once its deep. A legit 5 man group. With a couple quality options to step in for the ineveitable injuries. Its way better than already using the scrap heap in the 4/5 spots plus any replacements.

Bullpen still needs some work. But we got some back end potential so thats good at least. Duran obviously a stud.

Lineup theres a lot to like again health depending. But it requires the big 2 staying healthy. Polanco not worried about hes usually healthy and should bounce back. AK, Miranda and Larnach all have lots about them to like. Its again, health for two of them

Gallo and Kepler are under rated pieces to this puzzle. Both are excellent defenders and instantly paired with Buxton(and even Taylor when Buxton sits or DH's 50% of time) makes our OF defense elite. And they are both two hitters that will vastly benefit from the shift being banned.

If those two can find more of their peak forms theyve shown before with no shift. Big time.

As you can see even in that post, a lot of ifs especially on the health front. But there is a lot to work with to make those IF's possible. Which is nice with this division.

A left handed pitcher really has to be careful with a runner on 1st. If he gets to the limit, that could be an easy SB for the runner. Or the pitcher would have to change to a quick delivery.

It's kind of an odd spring training. Players that will be going to the World Baseball Classic started working out earlier and are ahead of the game at this stage of camp - note Pablo Lopez throwing 95mph in his first Spring Training appearance.

Other players who are not going to the WBC or are coming off injuries are behind many others.

for the Twins, as of today, Polanco, Buxton, Correa and others have not appeared in a Spring Training game yet. Twins have been looking at a lot of the younger players early on.

But - still a month to go before the regular season. and when players leave for the WBC, the remaining players will have to be in the lineup.

BTW - WBC runs March 7 to March 21.

I searched and couldn't find the answer. For playoffs they dont have a base runner start at 2nd in extras
According to this everything will remain in the postseason.

Q: Will these rules apply to the postseason?

A: Absolutely. This is not like the rule that puts a runner on second base in extra innings, which goes away in the postseason. (Its primary purpose is to save roster chaos caused by long games, which is not an issue in the postseason.) The pitch timer is designed to address pace of action and length of game, both of which are exacerbated in the postseason. MLB believes the rules are even more important in the postseason.

That's what I'm wondering. if I'm on first base and the pitcher has used his two disengagements, can I theoretically take as big of a lead as I want?

Edouard Julien with 2 HR's today. He will be playing with Canada in the World Baseball Classic.

this dude can flat-out hit. from all accounts, not a great fielder, but probably an adequate 2B.
Twins might have to do something to make room for this guy's bat.

Brooks Lee with 2 hits - both singles.

As it is, they don't have room for Larnach, much less this guy. Only 2 of these 3 make the team: Nick Gordon, Solano and Larnach.

Well as I read more, technically you can throw over a third time but if you're not successful in picking them off, it's a balk. So the runner would still have to be careful.

I still think there's another trade happening. Gordon most likely but possibly Larnach.

The question I have is what happens if both the pitcher and the batter screw up at the end of a full count? Is it a walk or a strike out? They have shown instances where the batter will start with a one and one count.

Depends how drunk you are, I suppose.
I've been very drunk and the thought of coldcocking a dude that big never crossed my mind. Maybe the other guy was equally as big? I think I'll stick to believing that Jordan wasn't Mr. Innocent here.
