All Things 2022 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

The worst to me is still letting Daniel Carlson go because Zim came into work Monday with a red ass. You’re the bleeping GM have a backbone and say no he’s your guy life with it.
I'll disagree on that one. He probably saved Carlson's career by cutting him. I don't think he would have recovered in Minnesota.

I think your right. Zim was unfriendly to special teams. I heard multiple people say the constant flux at holder and snapper are actually the qorst part to most kickers.

Armon Watts released. They make a trade with the Texans.

Vikes waive projected starting DT Armon Watts.

and then make a trade for Ross Blacklock from the Texans. Blacklock is a former 2nd-round draft pick.

!!!!!!! a tweet - according to a source, Vikings have had talks with Odell Beckham, Jr. He will likely start the season on IR but Vikes hope he could be healthy for a playoff push.

also - OL Jesse Davis is being traded to the Steelers. Looks like Ingram starts at RG with Chris Reed making team as a backup OL.

that's the latest as of just before 3pm.

The dude looked like he was about to cry by the time he kicked that 3rd FG in Green Bay. And continuing with Zim and Mr. "Nuke the Gays" Special Teams coach wasn't for anyone in that mindset.

Zim was awfully quick with the dumping of Carlson but Carlson brought it on himself to an extent. Somewhere between Auburn and the Vikings, Carlson had changed his approach, tweaked his technique, and he struggled mightily with the Vikings.

To his credit, between the Vikings and Raiders, Carlson went back to the tape, did his homework and put in the work and made himself a viable option with the Raiders. No telling what would have happened or how long it would have taken Carlson to figure it out if he hadn't gotten cut.

You remember wrong. His draft projections:

NFL Network - 3rd round
Bleacher Report - 2nd round
Pro Football Network - 1st round
PFF - 2nd Round

One of then called him the best Gaurd in the draft.
By the Vikings' scouts, not those services. I looked it up, and they didn't even give Davis a backup grade. He was considered trash by Spielman's scouts. They were correct.

You are correct on this. Viking scouts wanted nothing to do with him.

I think part of Zimmer's pissy attitude last year, besides all the tough losses, was he knew all these picks were busts.

Agreed. He was much more pissy last season. Probably because he was both on the hot seat, and all the reinforcements he received in the draft were trash and unplayable.

Big Ten OL of the year for 2020.

*smh*

Mond claimed by the Browns.

Seattle is "expected" to sign Mannion to their practice squad.

means the Vikes probably need a practice squad/emergency QB.

Armon Watts claimed by the Bears.

Vikes according to reports did not land anyone on waivers. not sure if they put in claims on anyone.

Reagor - last season:
33 rec for 299 yds (9.1 avg) with 2 TD. 10 rushing att for 32 yds
returned 31 punts for 227 yds & ret 12 KO for 255 yds

A small chance too. Low risk, high reward
Low risk? His cap hit is 1.8 and 2.4 million. Comes with tons of dead money (4 million to cut).

We gave up a 4th and 7th to me that seems high cost.

What do we get? A more expensive KJ Osborn?

Is it critical to the playbook to run 4 WR? Including to short ones?

Seems like something else should be done to make this one strategically make sense.

If he doesn’t perform it’s a 5th rounder. He’s a former 1st round pick so worth the money IMO. And still low risk.

I can’t say I watched him to see if he was just underused. If so great, but the eagles didn’t get much out of him.

I was hoping you had some insight specifically to justify some excitment.

This seems like an odd move to me. I'd keep Smith-Marsette (as he was more than serviceable in his role) and spend what they'll have to pay Reagor on CB. Osborn is good enough to be your #3 WR, leaving ISM as your #4 guy. The DB situation is more dire than the WR situation.

In a vacuum, not a terrible move. But there are greater needs.

Are they dumping Spielman guys just to spite Spielman, or do they all suck?

I'm of the mind that they all just suck.

I have to think if the current regime thought any of them were a worthwhile asset to help them win games they would keep them. Why would they care 1 iota if Spielman was the one that drafted them?

Ego.

ISM released!

He told Andrew Booth, "Watch your back when you sleep, bitch!"

He also said he was "thirsty" for Justin Jefferson's girlfriend.

ISM is a whack job. His behavior is what did him in.

Not sure I’d say I’m excited for it. But think it was a solid move that could pay off. Worse case he is an upgrade at punt return and costs a 5th and 7th. Not a huge deal.
