All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Celestino getting doubled up was comically bad. He's had so many brain farts in the past few weeks. Just unacceptable.
Remember the good old days when people would bitch and moan about Rosario, thinking that's about as bad as it gets? Well, we have since learned that it gets far, far worse, especially when it extends to just about the entire team.

Random thought of the day...they beat this drum all the time on the radio broadcast when there is a bunting situation - "how can you expect player xyz to bunt here when they don't have any experience bunting". These are highly compensated professionals (well, some anyway) - why isn't bunting for 5-10 minutes a daily practice routine? With a gift runner on 2nd base in extra innings, unless you have Aaron Judge up to bat, almost every first at bat should be a sac bunt. But nope...nobody in the majors apparently knows how to bunt anymore.

gotta go for the big inning! :ROFLMAO:

  • A 15-second pitch clock with the bases empty and a 20-second clock with runners on
  • Two disengagements from the rubber -- including pickoff attempts -- per plate appearance
  • A requirement by hitters to be in the batter's box and "alert" with eight seconds to go on the clock. Hitters are allowed one timeout per plate appearance
  • Only two infielders will be allowed on each side of second base, with all four required to be on the dirt (or inner grass)
  • Infielders cannot position themselves on the outfield grass before the pitch is thrown
  • Bases will increase in size from 15 inches squared to 18..
Guessing the strongest negative reactions from around the country will be from people who say they "hate the game" and that "it's too slow". They'll be screaming "How could they!";)

They desperately need to get a veteran RH hitting OF'er who can play CF 80 games when Buxton doesn't and RF 70 games for Kepler the rest of the time.

I agree with most of these, but I wonder about the 2 disengagements. Basically if you throw over once, you're done, because if you use the 2nd one they can just steal with impunity after that? I think a per game limit would make more sense. Teams love to throw over on guys who haven't stolen a base in 3 years and I hate that.

I think the rationale goes something like this:

a runner on 2nd is going to score on most base hits to the outfield, so bunting the lead runner to 3rd is seen as "giving up an out."

granted, the runner on 3rd could then score on a sac fly, wild pitch, passed ball, etc.

but it seems that most teams think they have a better chance to score by having 3 chances to get a base hit.

and I'm sure that the number-crunchers have a room full of data showing how often bunting the runner to 3rd results in a run, as opposed to not bunting him over. and a bad bunt could result in the lead runner getting thrown out at 3rd, which would be the worse possible outcome.

on the pitch clock - saw an article that all of the players on the committee voted against the pitch clock and the shift rule, but they were out-voted. (11 on the committee - 6 from management/owners, 4 players and 1 umpire).

and - interesting note on the pitch clock impact in the minors:

The clock has helped reduce the average time of a nine-inning game in the minor leagues from 3 hours, 4 minutes in 2021 to 2:38 this season. The average time of a nine-inning game in the major leagues this year is 3:06; it was 2:46 in 1989, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

I can see it going down to 2:45. I think in the mid-90s the amount of time between innings increased.

I'm glad we're running Divin Jake and Dribbler Celstino out there night after night instead of seeing what Wallner can do.

Cave has a 2-0 count after Sanchez walks on 4 straight pitches and isn’t taking a strike and offered a Half-heated check swing and then strikes out.

That’s an automatic take for a .219 hitter when the first 2 guys get on base in front of u and you’re done 4-0.

Amazing how little attention they pay to the game within the game.

Archer and Sanchez against McKenzie and Bieber the rest of the series. Sweep incoming. The end is near, I'm afraid.

It starts at the top. For how much Falvey and Co they love their spreadsheets, you'd think they'd care about doing the little things right.

Makes you realize what a good manager TK was and Gardy as well - we didn’t beat ourselves then.

Win Twins!!
There is some truth to this, but even that is something they have to answer for. How is Ober out all year with a pulled groin? How does Polanco go from "day to day" to out 3 weeks? How does Larnach go from out a few weeks to 3 months? Almost every injury has been excessively long and far longer than we were initially told. Are they incompetent or just lying?

And now Chris archer goes two innings and is pulled after 40 pitches and a 1/2/3 2nd inning. Don’t read into anything into that like he’s injured or something.

Cleveland seriously want to put the end to any of the Twins playoffs hopes. the Twins are lifeless right now. down 5-0.
