To be clear. I think Fleck was a good hire. I have no issue with Row the Boat. I get the importance of it to Fleck's "culture".
As has been posted, putting it on polos that the players and staff wear, on t-shirts, signs for the students to hold up? Great. I have no problem with it.
I do have a problem with the current culture towards uniforms in general. What Oregon has 7,422 combinations of uniforms and only one of them incorporates school colors. yeah, I don't like that. So, yeah, I have a problem with the uniforms but not for the lazy lame ass reasons you've blanketed anyone who doesn't like the concept of slapping a bunch of bull**** that has nothing to do with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers - regardless who is behind it -- is not for me, so I don't like it.
I never said I'd stop watching if they switch, but I'll be embarrased that we're just one more "me too" mindless automaton that thinks history and tradition have no value and that school colors and logos are merely guidelines to be ignored.
My opinion. Not shared by all, but it was the same before PJ Fleck got here, and it will be the same when he is gone (and GWG, that could be in 40 years when he retires, it'll be ok). Adaptation to the times is one thing, abandoning your identity for anyone is never, ever, ever a good idea. In football uniforms or in life.
I agree 100%. I'm all in on PJ, but the oars are PJ, not the Gophers. And, yes, the Gophers have certainly changed looks over years, but I think they have finally hit on a clean, strong, 'traditional' look that they should stick with (like every 'helmet' school has, and over which their fans would go nuts if they monkeyed with). I thought the oars they put all over WMichigan's unis were tacky and ridiculous, even in the MAC. I hope whatever they have planned is nothing near to that, but more along the lines of the subtle brick pattern on the numbers of the Kill/Claeys era. However, based on PJ's comments, and the eyesores WM rolled out the last few years, it seems doubtful it will be anything so subtle !
Either way, I'd love it if they really started to become a factor on the field, but I admit if they had a bunch of stupid oars all over the uniform, it would temper my enthusiasm. I also know that after 50 years of being a virtual non-factor, many fans probably wouldn't care !! Lol
