All Things 2013-2014 Gopher Womens Season Thread

I would say the longer this goes on the more likely Borton stays. If she isn't canned by tomorrow, she'll be the coach next year. Whatever Teague's intentions are, I think he's seen the program the past two years and where it's going to know one way or the other.

Agree. If this goes beyond Sunday or maybe Monday, it's looking like the status quo is being accepted in women's basketball.

Norwood didn't waste time on this decision, I would be surprised if he hadn't decided on this a while ago. Missing NCAA tourney again was probably her final nail in the coffin. Looks like Roysland has been named the interim head coach and if the new coach were to keep anyone from the old staff I hope it is her.

Most felt that it didn't really matter who the coach was to Wagner and it looks like that is the case.

U's top women's basketball recruit needs company

"Carlie Wagner walked off the elevated floor of Williams Arena on March 22 with a huge smile on her face. The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva standout guard had just led her team to back-to-back Class 2A state championships.

Less than a week later, the enthusiastic Wagner was sporting a more solemn tone. The future Gopher just had learned of the firing of the coach, Pam Borton, who recruited her to play in the Big Ten Conference.

“It’s like a punch to my stomach,” Wagner said. “I wasn’t expecting this at all. I’m surprised.”

The state’s best in the Class of 2014 is Wagner. The Miss Basketball candidate concluded her career as the state’s No. 2 scorer of all time with 3,957 points. She committed to Borton and the Gophers during her junior season.

“I always wanted to be a Gopher,” Wagner said. “I knew what I wanted at that time, and locked into it. I still plan on going there.”

Wagner said she will be on campus in June for summer school and preseason workouts, just as Borton had planned.

“I enjoyed my entire senior year, and this is something that is out of my control,” Wagner said. “I appreciate everything Coach Borton did for me.”

In the WNIT round of eight today, SDSU 76, Indiana 64. SDSU advances to play the winner of UTEP v. Washington.

Gophers invited to a tough tournament -- Gulf Coast Showcase -- in Estero, FL Nov 28-30. UCONN, Vanderbilt, Arizona St, Georgia Tech, Villanova, Green Bay and College of Charleston the other teams.

Just like the NCAA women's tournament, the key will be to avoid UConn's bracket, with everyone else playing for 2nd place.

Definitely an exciting opportunity for the new coach, Banham & company.

2-1 in that tournament will be an accomplishment.
