All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

Man point 2 is weird, let’s say BROSMER is really good.

That’s bad because QB controversy?

Finding that out is bad? Him playing good is bad?

I can’t imagine coaches;

“Thank god we played Wentz and got our asses kicked!”

I just don’t buy that coaches fear qb controversies like that.
Plus if Wentz plays well, the same controversy exists, really.

If you care at all about the future of Max Brosmer then you aren't wishing for him to play behind thay attrocious O-line with the equally atrocious play calling KOC has displayed. "Max on a 5 step drop and he is absolutely murdered 4 steps in."
When you are the undrafted QB3 you need to find whatever shot you can get to play real live NFL reps. So many like him never get their chance.

Those will often come in not-optimal situations.

The rest of the Vikings team is not that bad. They still have Jettas, a solid RB, Addison is coming back, and the line has played well at times.

They’ll trade for another qb before they start Brosmer
They let an awful lot of (sometimes very good) QBs walk away, but kept him on the roster. Why not give him a chance? Waste of a spot on the 53-man if he's not good enough to play when the starter is out.

No doubt the option of Max seeing the field is on the list of options but far, far from ideal. Wentz has to be next man up but if he struggles Max should get at least a series. The D in that circumstance will be out for blood. Very interesting thought experiment on the play to call with the 3-4 back-up plays that could be switched at the line. This is where Max's high football IQ and film study could make a difference for a true rookie.

The coaches know what they have in the quarterback room. This is entirely about the armchair quarterbacks and their knee jerk reactions when/if Brosmer looked competent enough to get us a win this coming Sunday. You think the coaches and front office want a quarterback controversy two games into the anointed franchise QBs career? That's a bad thing for them.....because that would almost definitely imply that they missed badly on the McCarthy pick.

I think coach's want to win and DGAF about what we say online.

If JJ isn't playing it doesn't matter what anyone thinks of someone else is playing good.

I don't know if a quarterback controvery indicating that they may have drafted poorly is as severe as the risk of not making the playoffs and jeopardizing their employment/lighting a small fire under their chair. The fanbase wouldn't care if they threw a ham sandwich out there if said ham sandwich got the team into the playoffs and got them some Ws.

Not to mention, say Brosmer ends up looking good. Really good. Wouldn't the coaching staff end up being considered brilliant for the steal they got in him? People would forget about JJ reeeeeally quickly if the next man up played at a highly competitive rate. Also, the casual fanbase, who doesn't pay attention to injury statuses or intangible things that contribute to the offense being garbage, doesn't care about anything but wins at this point. All they know is that McCarthy looks like a dud and they want to see some touchdowns to Jefferson

Two things playing against Brosmer seeing the field:

1) Do you really want to put him behind the offensive line that got McCarthy smished? Wentz was more or less signed to be the sacrificial lamb in this specific case.
2) There isn't a QB controversy and the Vikings don't want one. I think the last thing the organization wants, only two games into their (potential) franchise QBs career, is to have an undrafted rookie come in and show out better than the guy they invested a lot of draft capital in.

That said.....hopefully Wentz looks terrible and forces the Vikes hand. It would be pretty awesome to see Brosmer take the field for the Vikings in games that matter.
I don't think any NFL team would care. Look how things played out with the 49ers, Trey Lance, and Brock Purdy.

I was at the game with some Bears fans. They were not surprised. Bears fans are very beaten down and expect the worst.
I'm quickly learning about their cynicism. My niece is dating a kid from Chicago and even at 20 years old, the scars run deep. He is not a big fan of Poles, that's for sure.

Just for kicks and grins...per ESPN stats.

Wentz average QB Rating
89.3 Career
86.7 Since 2019 (excludes his first three good seasons)

Darnold average QB Rating
84.1 Career
85.4 Since 2019 (excludes a bad rookie season)

Just looking at stats, Wentz has a chance to be decent. Let's hope he can pick up the offense in a short time.

The best thing about this situation is that Max gets second team reps for 2 to 4 weeks. That should help his development.

Bruce Smith was pretty good too ... we're not bringing him back ;)
