After this season, who makes a BCS bowl sooner: PSU or Minn?

PSU can still make a BCS bowl if they win the BT title game. So after this season, who makes a BCS bowl sooner: PSU or Minn?
 


Unless the NCAA gets involved at PSU it's hard to not say PSU.
 

PSU...but I think it will be a long time for either.

There is still much more talent on that roster. And if Urban comes there I could see it happening in the next 3 years...but I dont think he will.
 

Even if Penn state is set back 25 years.....that's still 25 years less than our current drought.

Anyone who says anything other than Penn state should message me. I'd love to be your bookie.

Minnesota has been to 2 BCS caliber bowls in it's history.

Minnesota has two big ten titles in 70 years.
Minnesota has 0 in 40 years.
Minnesota has 5 top 2 big ten finishes since 1942.


I'm not so much betting on Penn state as much as I'm not betting on Minnesota.
 


Minnesota. Penn State is done as a football program.
 

I don't know what the future holds for Penn State Football. I would believe that there will be a complete house cleaning with nearly everyone on campus. I think they will still be able to hire a big name football coach and he will bring in his own staff. As sad as it is, I don't believe they will face any NCAA Sanctions, so they might be able to rebound quickly.

I am not throwing this name out there, but using it as an example. What if they hire a person with the character of someone like Tony Dungy? Things could rebound quickly then.
 

It is too early to say. They won't likely face NCAA sanctions, but the house cleaning required may be one of the biggest house cleaning in college history. They have to clean out the whole culture. Players have to be thinking of whether they will transfer, and recruits have to be thinking of whether they want to change their minds. They still have a lot of time to think.

Why is that sad? Why should the players, fans, and future coaching staff suffer because of one reprehensible individual and the handful of others who aided and abetted him?

Or maybe we just think the damage done to PSU's football program is a lot worse than you think it is? The people who think Penn State will just hire a big name guy and be right back on track in the short term are delusional. Think SMU, maybe not quite as bad but close.

Unless you can tell who voted for Minnesota, you can't say that anyone has outed themselves. To have outed themselves, their identity would have to be publicly known. And while those who say that Minnesota will be in a BCS bowl before Penn State might be wrong, it's not at all unreasonable to think that Minnesota could turn things around in the next few years, while Penn State might struggle for a time. To be a buffoon for thinking Minnesota could reach a BCS bowl first, it would have to be basically impossible, which it is not.

+1. Penn State is still a helmet school and there will be a ton of high-profile candidates to succeed Paterno. The new broom will sweep clean, there may be a dip in performance/expectations, but they'll be back in the mix within five years.
 



It was always something of an unknown what would happen to PSU when Joe Pa left. Now that uncertainty is multiplied 10x. Still even if a complete rebuilding is needed and it takes them 10 years, that means they will probably beat the Gophers.

Silly. Rebuilding obviously takes at least 50 years. And counting.
 


I don't believe this program will ever reach a BCS game, certainly not under Kill. CFB is made up of the haves and the have-nots. The BCS is simply an unattainable expectation for this program, and it's just the way it is. I've learned to accept it.

We can, however, play the game of our lives and beat teams like Becky tomorrow, ensuring they do not make a BCS bowl either.

Ever is a very long time. You say that you don't think this team will ever make a BCS bowl, and certainly not with Kill? So you think it will take longer than forever to make a BCS bowl with Kill? If you thought we would never make a BCS bowl, then why even mention Kill. It would be like saying "You'll never be able to jump to the moon, and certainly not with those shoes on." It is just redundant.

But your assertion that only the haves get to go to BCS bowls is false. Teams that you might describe as "have nots" do make BCS bowls. Iowa and Wisconsin used to be in the same boat as we are, they have no special advantages, other than having made good hires while we made poor hires. Time will tell how well our current hire is.
 




A quick look at some of the "have not" teams that have gone to BCS bowls: Syracuse, Illinois, Washington State, Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Kansas, Cincinnati, Stanford, Purdue, Northwestern. Since it is such a vague distinction, there may be some dispute whether these teams are "haves" or "have nots". Stanford might be classified as a "have" team by some, but for a long time, they were certainly a have not for quite a long time.

Virginia Tech is a 'have not' team? OK then. Please enlighten me who the 'haves' are in the ACC then.

its a little early to be saying that.. this argument cannot be made until PSU offically hires a coach going forward.. with that said, the events that took place at psu could have huge implications. i am of the belief that PSU football will be a top 25 team for years to come. maybe not the 1-2 loss team we usually see, but deff a 8-9 win school

Take it up with the guy who said that "have not" teams don't make it to BCS bowl games. As I said, the list was highly subjective. They did go 32 years without a conference championship, which shouldn't be possible if only the haves can do it.

They certainly were pre-Frank Beamer, but I think the 25 years he's been in place removed them from that list. May Jerry Kill be our Frank Beamer.
 

Good point, I hereby remove Virginia Tech from the list have have nots.
 

Well, things always look worst in the heart of the whirlwind, understandably enough. Right now it seems as if Penn State football might go right down the tubes forever, but given their history and pedigree and the fact that football is so intertwined with the identity of that school and receives such massive support and encouragement as a result of that, let's just say I'm not about to put the RIP on Penn State football. A totally different deal, but I remember after Woody Hayes was fired in scandal, and people prognosticating that that might very well be the end of Ohio State football, and how that didn't exactly come to pass. It's just an indication that things always look much worse at the time, and that tends to cloud the whole picture.
 

PSU. Better program and have the ability to hire a top notch coach for big bucks that will give them a better shot.

They are a top 20 national program and probably the 3rd or 4th most recognizable program in the conference, with OSU, Michigan, and us.

Comes down to $$$. If they have to break the bank to pay civil liabilities arising out of Sandusky- gate, they will not be able to maintain top program status. Plus I have to imagine donors may be less likely to give to PSU fball at the present time (and there are rumors that some donors may get roped in to this scandal before all is said and done).
