A rivalry with the Washington Huskies?

I was at Husky Stadium in 2007 the night they unfurled a banner in honor of declaring themselves 1960 national champions. Everyone in the stadium was laughing.

IIRC that was a game against USC in which USC had 160 yards of penalties and 3 lost turnovers, yet that UW team wouldn't take the game despite it being set on a platter for them.
That is the story and since they already won the national championship the Gopher coaches and players vacationed more than they practiced, which was the accepted way for a Rose Bowl exhibition game.

The Huskies were so certain they won the 1960 national championship they waited 47 years to ‘claim’ it in 2007.

The 1940 and 1941 Minnesota-Washington games were among the most consequential intersectional games of the year. Reading Danny Spewak’s book about the 1941game (the season opener with Bierman’s motto:”Washington First!”) a detailed description of the scope of the game and the effort required for the travel. Three thousand Minnesota fans made the trip. The Alumni Association organized a Frday night gala dinner for 500 people.

Sure. When their fans come to town, we can throw those stupid Washington Red Delicious apples at them and mock them, as those apples are neither red, nor delicious.
I'd forgotten about "Red Delicious" apples. They are some of the worst apples I've ever eaten. Hate to disagree, but I remember them as being red. So they are selling those apples in Minnesota?

As for a rivalry with the "taildraggers" have at it. I'll be pulling for your fencing team and any and every other team against the "Seattle Brown Streaks".
