I picked 4 years since that is how long Johnson lasted.

Here's my hope after 4 years:

- 2 years ahead of wisconsin in the Big Ten standings (hasn't happened since 1997)
- 2 NCAA Tournament appearances
- Uptick in season tickets (very hard to get people back once they left tickets but I think they will over time)
- Genuine and noticeable increase in fan interest throughout the state.

Go Gophers!!

That's a good list. The part about finishing ahead of Wisconsin might be a little pie in the sky; I'd certainly take even one season finishing ahead of them.

I'd consider it a smashing success if they made the NCAAs one or more times and advanced at least once. That would be more than anyone since Haskins did in their first four years.

He needs at least one trip to the tournament because that's what we gave CBJ. I'm assuming he's going to get paid more though, so he better do it by Year 3. Plus we need to increase attendance to make up for the salary increase I'm assuming he's getting. So I'm going to say he needs 2 NCAAs by year 4 and increase tickets sales enough to come out ahead on the excess we're paying him compared to CBJ. I'm also going to say finishing top half in conference at least twice with one top 5 finish.

I'm not saying it's a must but like making it to the weekend of the B1G tournament would be fun, have we ever done that?

And yes a trip or two to the ncaa tournament, and just being a good competitive team. We have now seen a monster league get 87.5% of its teams in, we are a part of a monster conference this shouldn't be hard.

I’d like it if we were at least a middle-of-the-pack B1G team that is consistently on the bubble each year. Making the tournament at least once or twice in 4 years would be excellent. I also agree with setting a good foundation by increasing interest in Gopher basketball and bring more fans into the Barn.

And beat Wisconsin, for crying out loud!

2 NCAA tourney appearances, at least one trip to the round of 32, at least one winning conference season, at least one trip to the BTT semis, a cumulative B1G record north of 40%.

Those aren't all necessarily make or break for me, and certainly exceeding my benchmark on one or more of those metrics would make me more forgiving on some of the others. But I think that is a realistic goal for what a good hire's first four years would look like.

50% NCAAs
At least 1 season in top half of B1G
A 50-50 record vs Skunks

At least this hire isn’t a reach. A Tyrannosaur could of made this choice!

If he does enough that the GopherHole staff need to change the name of this forum to "The Niko Medved Center For Praise And Worship Of The Coach Who Has Navigated The Gophers To A Three-Time Repeat National Championship"

or TNMCFPAWOTCWHNTGTATTRNC

Anything less is a settling for mediocrity.

We're going to trademark "The Niko Medved Center For Praise And Worship Of The Coach Who Has Navigated The Gophers To A Three-Time Repeat National Championship" and the appropriately abbreviated TNMCFPAWOTCWHNTGTATTRNC.

A 12 win conference record seems like a bit of a let-down. :)

At least 1 trip to the second weekend of the tournament.

#2 is the main one that matters. Do that, and 3 and 4 will happen by default. As for Wisconsin, who knows what their lucky horseshoe will bring them next.

I've seen a couple people talk about beating Wisconsin, and for as how much that's the goal for everything in life, I don't think it's nearly as big of a deal in basketball as it is in football. Nedved could never beat Wisconsin, and there would still be a path to him being a huge success IMO

I hope you mean in conference, because winning more than you lose should be a given for a big ten coach with the out of conference schedule.
it was mostly nonsense

If he wins, we'll like him
if he doesn't, we'll be demanding he's fired

Defending the hire doesn't depend on either (1) arguing that Nedved's performance is better than his record or (2) arguing that a past coach's performance was either not as good as their record or the untestable assertion that they were about to go down hill.

Finish ahead of wisconsin. Get to NCAA Tournament.

Honestly the bar is so low here.

2 seasons over .500 in big 10 [tubby never ha a winning record at Minnesota] . 1 sweet sixteen. This might be a high bar but I'm a clem guy and this was the norm when he was here. No reason we can't get there again

1 tournament appearance is a minimum, 2 and he has done a really nice job.

From his record it appears he can recruit and coach. Can he sell like PJ has to corporations for NIL contributions? I am willing to be patient his first two years.

I'd take 1 NCAA appearance minimum.
2 top 9 finishes in the big ten. The four teams added have potential to recruit big and not be bottom dwellers for long: USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington.

Bonus: after top 50-100 MN recruits see the consistent success, they at least consider the gophers before they would sit on a bench at Wisconsin!!
