Academic issues? Something else?

Justin Bellido
Dakota Thomas
Dylan McGill

If they don't sign, do we fill the 2 spots we have open in the class? Couple transfers? Jucos? or maybe PJ leaves this class at 23 to help with the scholarship numbers?

This was just the early signing period, I am sure there are still plenty of 2020 guys they are in pursuit of that could sign in the late period. My guess is that one way or another those spots will go to good use but how they will be used is tough to say at this point.

In regards to the 3 that didn't sign it was reported in a different thread that it was most likely academics with all of them.

Doesn't mean they can't sign later.
True, I guess given their rating and such I figured if they could they would've signed early, but that is an assumption on my end.

2 of them WRs, right?
Yep, so it possible that their offers weren't commitable anymore I guess.

There's still time for the academic issues to clear up, right?

Saw somewhere that some were retaking ACT this past Saturday, so results may be on there way before they sign.

I'm curious what the difference is between these guys and the other few that we reportedly parted ways with because of academics (Claude Larkins/Benjamin Onwuozo/Richard Agyekum are the ones I am thinking about but I could be wrong). Were academics convenient excuses to cut those guys loose? Do we want to hang on to these guys despite academic concerns?

Was academics the official excuse on those? Larkins and Agyekum seemed fairly transparently making room for some of the late-comers, and Onwuozo struck me as a decomit in solidarity with his teammate.

Possibly others were too far gone academic wise to get back to being accepted? And maybe these guys like MaxyJR1 says just need to improve a test score.

Lots of theory there, but I could see that happening.

I like how this staff won't accept a National Letter of Intent from players that have not yet qualifed academically. I remember previous staffs signing players only to have them not get into school. Brewster seemed to have the most non qualifiers, and Kill cleaned up a bit from that. But I think Fleck is the only coach we've had that has seemed to make it a requirement for accepting an NLI.

I don't know for sure, I thought I read somewhere that they were at least nominally because of academics. Not sure if that was a fig leaf to excuse making room for better prospects or not. Just asking because I don't know.

I wonder if they might get assigned forward to 2021 class?

We have one spot open (the Aussie Punter has a scholarship). If one of the three is able to qualify academically we will take them, otherwise keep an eye out for Cam Martinez who didn't sign with OSU, or a grad transfer such as JD.

My understanding is that grad transfers do not count against the annual 25 but do count against the total 85

Does the punter count towards the 25? He isn’t listed by 247 that way.

Any admitted player during a season counts toward the 25, whether they are out of HS, Juco or another university.

I believe there is another thread that mentions Dakota Thomas and Dylan McGill were retaking the ACT test this last Saturday and did not come on there official visits because of that. This is likely a pending qualifying situation to get in to school. I do not know about Belido.

I wouldn't be shocked if we ended up with room for more than 1 additional person. I don't think we hold a spot for them (even though the staff seems especially high on Thomas), but if there is mutual interest in February, go from there.

Yes my bad. I was thinking about walk-ons that are awarded a scholarship. If they get a scholarship after two years at the school, they don't count against any yearly quota, but still do count against the 85.

Somebody on the staff is very busy looking at numbers so that they are in compliance.

Wouldn't they just bank it and award a scholie to a PWO? Last minute 4-Star available at the last minute, a can't say no type?

2 WR and sort of a hybrid. I saw Dylan McGill listed as WR/Wildcat QB.

On a side note, this means we only signed 3 WR, 3 OL, 5 DB, 4 LB, and 6 DL. I only bring that up because there was some concern about this class being too WR-heavy.

I was concerned. Seems like the class balanced out pretty well.

The class won't be "final" until February. And even then we've sometimes gotten kids much later, like in the summer (Howden, IIRC).

JD clearly has been pretty quiet as far as I know. I haven't seen anything out of him stating that he is looking forward to finishing his football career at Nebraska. Surely he must be aware of all the rumors out there. Any thoughts?
