2025 Transfer Portal Watch

Charles Barkley didn't have to matchup with centers but he was giving up quite a bit of height to most power forwards when he played and he was still a great rebounder. Of course Charles was also a little thicker then most of today's basketball players :)

NIL nightmare? Ian Jackson signs with adidas

Posted Feb 16, 2024
Here is when it gets interesting with NIL. On Wednesday, 5-star UNC Basketball signee Ian Jackson entered into an agreement with adidas to utilize their name-image-likeness as a brand ambassador. No matter what Jackson is paid by adidas, he cannot wear their shoes or apparel when he is on the court for the Tar Heels, because UNC is a Nike school. (Chapelboro.com)
I like how it says “NIL Nightmare?” But this is one of the RARE examples of a true NIL deal. Instead of it being a collective paying the kids to play and pretending that’s not what’s happening, this sounds like an actual deal using his name…. Image… and wait for it… likeness

Yeah, but are we an Adidas school? LOL

“Bobby Durkin has great size for his skill set,” Shaw’s scouting report read. “A legit wing, he has a smooth jump shot with a repeatable release and excellent balance. Durkin is able to get into his shot off the bounce or off the catch. He can create space for himself off the live dribble. Durkin is an excellent passer, with vision from multiple spots on the floor.

“He can secondarily initiate in the half-court or create shots as the shot clock winds down. Lateral quickness will be a question, but he gives effort and has an IQ on the defensive end. Durkin is a good rebounder and has an innate toughness. He is someone who could outplay his ranking in college. Durkin averaged 18.4 points on the UAA Next Circuit.”

Go Gophers!!
What is a “repeatable release?”

What worries me is recalling Ben's first squad that had Battle and Willis but no one that could stop anyone in the paint or get boards. Now we already have Crocker Johnson, a good defender, but we certainly need more size.
That’s my post traumatic stress as well.

I have good news.

In watching Houston and Florida on Saturday and tonight.........I don't think either team can stay with our portal signings.
Houston put up 62 and beat Purdue by two. Think a lot of teams can hang with them. Florida not so much. Probably a good thing didn’t play them earlier this year.

I'm guessing it means his form is very consistent, any variation to your release from shot to shot decreases your accuracy
It is a real thing. Some shooters shoot differently more than you realize if you study it
If the form is consistent....the release..then the greater the likelihood the results will be more consistent.
But my guess is we are mostly blowin' smoke here...my total guess...most good college shooters have likely developed a repeatable stroke. (release)

YUP! Question is...can Niko get them to play that physical and that hard on defense and develop that crazed pursuit of rebounds and loose balls?
