2025 Minnesota High School Football Thread

Have the southern Minnesota schools play at the Rochester Regional Stadium and make a weekend out of it.

Curius where you got the numbers on Fergus Falls? I can only find that it has around 8.5% from 2010 to 2025. 2020 census shows 14,119.
Probably not the best but it was first I saw. The 57,000 didn’t make sense but it was draw area, so I thought it was possible.

Gustavus has held state playoff games over the years. It's an easy place to host a big football crowd and it has decent levels of seating on both sides of the field. It also has a long history of hosting all kinds of HS playoff action in other sports ranging from basketball and hockey to track/field. The only limitation is the new stadium there does not have lights. The old grass stadium did have lights but the fancy new stadium does not.

Possibly the 819th article this year on Moorhead in the Star Tribune today. I would love to hear about some of the other teams just once!

Lights are necessary due to Saturday games being limited with officials working college games as well. Colleges also obviously play Saturday. Gustavus has been expensive to rent. Southwest State is less expensive but less than ideal geographically.

Owatonna needs to be willing to host. Hopefully that occurs in the future.

St. Olaf has turf but they also don't have lights. Day games are great however this time of year.

Either that or Owatonna. Owatonna has the nicest facility in south central Minnesota that I've seen. Not sure of the capacity number but I'm sure it would be big enough.
It's plenty big. Might just not want to do it though.

It's as nice as most MIAC Stadiums I have been to.

Come back in another year as their talent are all Juniors.

They may win again. Won’t get the ball as much but who will get a stop in the game might just win.

Now that I no longer have a dog in the fight I will be interested to see if anyone can stop the Maple Grove/Minnetonka matchup from happening. Seems like the EP/Edina winner might be able to keep Tonka out but I don't see Maple Grove being stopped by either South or the Moorhead/Centennial winner.

Edina's schedule this year is pretty crazy. Started with Hopkins and Wayzata but final 6 games of the regular season were all against teams in the final 8.

Eden Prairie - L
Maple Grove - L
STMA - W
Lakeville South - W
Minnetonka - W
Moorehead - L
Something I find interesting about Maple Grove - I'd have to look at where they were in all their games, but know for sure that against EP, Edina & Minnetonka, they were either tied or trailing at halftime. They ended up winning all 3 by at least 2 TD's or more.....

Seems like a team that knows how to put teams to bed. I still think they're the most balanced of all 6A teams in that they don't have a glaring weakness that stands out.

STMA also had a lead on Maple Grove in the 4th.

Maple Grove is about a 3 to1 run to pass team. Many others like Minnetonka and EP are more in the 5-7+ to 1 range. I think MG looks to be more balanced and then decides to just pound the team in the 2nd half.

Is there any way to watch tonight’s games online?
I believe it’s available on NSPN but have to purchase access. Usually is worth it as it has been like $10 in the past and think you get it for the month so can view all of playoffs.

Another sneaky way to find the section games are sometimes I have found teams will have it on hudl. Usually someone will post it on the teams facebook page. Only have seen that for regular season and section games though.

It’s about $30 a year

First games tonight. Here is the link to the online program

#77 for 2A Barnesville jumped out at me .... holy crap they list him as 6'7" 395lbs !!

I don’t think Moorhead has punted through 3 playoff games. 35-21 over Centennial. Stopped Centennial on opening drive and that was all they needed to flip the game.

Looking at their games it definitely looks like they have very little trouble putting up points. Although it also appears they have some trouble stopping teams as well. Lot of high scoring games.

Can Confirm it's legit - saw the section championships last Friday in the FargoDome. He doesn't play much with pretty limited mobility, but seeing him stand next to Dudek (#70), it's a considerable height and weight difference.... EASILY stood out in warmups and the post-game line.... just massive.

Ironically - that's about 818 more articles than have been in the local fishwrap about the Spuds. Something about a college team in North Fargo that dominates those sports pages.

400 lbs in high school is crazy. Hopefully the kid can find a way to drop some weight because no way that is healthy to be that big at his age.

I subscribe to NSPN yearly. It has been pretty good, with good video quality to watch on my main TV through a browser. We originally ordered it up for the state Dance meet but have used it to watch a lot of other stuff too, including playoff football. If you enjoy HS sports, it seems like a worthwhile investment. And if you haven't watched high level competitive team dance, you are missing out. Amazing crowds at Target Center for the state dance meet and it always comes with a lot of talent and a lot of drama.

Grand Rapids score is interesting. They seem to have the least crossover in their schedule (in 4a) so hard to know how good they are.

Saw that as well. They've had some quality teams, but don't play a lot of common teams.

Benilde lost to GR 54-7 and it was 41-0 at half.

Benilde lost to a good Stewartville team 25-6 (Stewartville lost to Kasson on last play of game twice)
Benilde lost 41-0 to Marshall

Grand Rapids (10-1) now plays Kasson-Mantorville. GR has destroyed every team except Bemidji who is 5A.

I'm thinking Grand Rapids will be in the prep bowl and face Marshall or Orono. Marshall and Orono was a 13-12 game in regular season.

Agreed. Kasson-Mantorville has a good team but they were not as good as Byron. Byron was missing their best player for the section title game and still almost won. I'm going with Grand Rapids in that one as well.

Why are the announcers that do the NSPN games unaware how the brackets work. Last year I gave them a break because of the new system, but you would think the MSHSL would have given these guys some talking points about the crossovers. Each game I watch they keep running through the brackets and how they play out and they continue, each one of them mind you, with wrong info on who is playing the next rounds.
