2025 Bowl Projection Tracker

My word, it’s about this time of year that I remember just how totally awful the Big Ten’s bowl tie-ins have become.

At this point the B1G should just own and operate its own non-CFP bowl games in rotation locations.

Gotta get some better destinations that’s for sure.

They’re not all turds but some …

The game in Phoenix is not all bad, but I would prefer Nashville. Or Vegas. I actually think there is more fun to be had in downtown Nashville.

Pretty interesting situation they're in after beating Nebraska. 9 wins is on the table, though will have to take care of Iowa to get there. But 8 wins should be doable now. Unfortunately, 8 probably puts you in some second rate bowl and 9 might get you a good bowl (relative to what they seem to get in recent years).

Unless things have changed the following bowls require 5 different schools from B1G within a 6-year period AND no repeat teams.
Citrus: Illinois and Iowa ineligible
Reliaquest: Michigan ineligible
Music City: Iowa ineligible
Guaranteed Rate: Rutgers ineligible

Pinstripe requires a minimum of 6 different teams in an 8-year period but conference will work in good faith to make sure there are no repeat teams. That would seem to make Nebraska, Rutgers, Minnesota, Maryland ineligible.

Pac12 legacy bowls are: Holiday, Las Vegas, Alamo, Independence, LA and Sun

The way the standings sit it would seem Michigan would be a virtual lock for Citrus, making the RQ bowl extremely coveted between Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and maybe even Northwestern.

It's not impossible that Illinois could end up in the CFP. They have two losses now but they finish the season with @Washington, Rutgers, Maryland, @Wisconsin, and Northwestern. They were destroyed by Indiana but they came closer to OSU than any other team has so far.

You can always count on CBS Sports to give us the worst possible bowl projection until we have the number of wins that makes it impossible for them to do that.

At the opposite extreme here is Pro Football Network. The Gophers would have to have one hell of a finish to end up in the Citrus.
Did CBS Sports see that we beat Nebraska this past friday? Because they have them in Tampa against Vandy

Honestly from what I've seen reading these over the years, some are more in tune with the whole landscape than others. Some writers have an in depth look at all bowl possibilities, others basically give half the effort for everything that's not the NY6 or New Year's Day games.

Depends on your definition of "second rate". The Big Ten is primed to get three teams into the playoffs. Finishing 8-4 means a 6-3 Big Ten record. Probably battling with Iowa, Michigan, and Illinois for Citrus, Reliaquest, Music City, and Las Vegas. I'd say that any of those would be acceptable outcomes with a decent shot of playing a ranked team.

I think the Citrus Bowl would be a good one. Reliaquest is pretty good. Music City and Las Vegas bowl seem like they're kinda on the line of second rate and decent. But all would be better than they've gotten in recent years.

I'd agree any of those would be a good destination. Just beat Iowa.

I think MN will need to be 6-3 in conference to have a shot at any of those. 5-4 is most likely getting a much lesser game.

If this goes like it goes most any year, the Gophers will get a bowl that is objectively worse than what two or more other B1G teams that have the same or worse record and/or a loss to the Gophers on their resume. And when the bowl assignments come out with the Gophers pushed down to a game where they are touted as having the best B1G record ever to play in it, about a quarter of the posts here will somehow argue that is all this is deserved. Should have beaten Cal. Etc. etc. etc.

Since the Gophers will be playing in a bowl a notch or two down from the season they just had, their opponent will be a notch or two down from what would be a good bowl matchup. The Gophers will win, and everyone will ask how the Gophers keep winning bowl games.

Yeah, it is crazy how it happens every single time to the Gophers. They always get a lower bowl game than their record indicates they should.

This year teams that could be 6-3 in conference:

USC
Gophers
Iowa
llinois
Nebraska
Northwestern

With the remaining schedule I don't see Nebraska or Northwestern making 6-3.

but could have 4, 6-3 teams and just looking at the names you know USC is getting the best bowl of the bunch no matter what. Then Iowa and then probably Illinois, just based on names.

I don't see A&M dropping 4 of their last 5.
Yeah, with Samford and South Carolina there's basically no way that happens. Maybe they lose 1-2 games or maybe 3 if things go really bad but no way they lose to Samford and South Carolina.

Go 9-3, problem solved💪
