2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

I like Fitz...I think he was a very solid coach for a school that he loves. There is a reason they went after him for the hazing (I have no interest in litigating that) despite being the prodigal son. It was becoming obvious the system was peetering out and cfb was changing. Sucks cause schools like NW need coaches like that but cfb doesn't care.

MSU won't have the patience so he better hit the ground running and be squeeky clean.
I think Fitz can get MSU to the middle tier of the B1G at least. He understands B1G football, now has better resources than he's ever had, and will be very motivated. In a conference where PJ, Ferentz and Bielema have all had varying degrees of success I see no reason why he cant.

Good news if you hope PJ is staying (most of us do)
UCLA and Arkansas both filled. Both were rumored suitors for him recently.

I think Penn State (long shot) is the only remaining major job he might consider
Sounds like Penn State is getting the BYU coach. Seems like an odd fit and a lateral move from Frankin at best, but we'll see.

They were always going to get a lateral move at best from Franklin, which is why it was dumb to fire him. There's a very short list of guys who are clearly better coaches than Franklin right now, and those guys aren't leaving their current jobs.

Does he? What makes you think that? Things have changed since last he coached and he didn't seem to "get Big Ten Football" then. And he was in the Big Ten West...

I mean sure I guess middle of the pack is fine...but they are currently paying their former coach $30 million to go away so I am not sure why you do that in the hopes you can be on the level of say The Gophers. YMMV.

In the pay for play era BYU has become a really good job. They have plenty of money to throw around. It may have seemed crazy to say 5 years ago, but I don't know why Sitake would leave his alma mater for Penn St. He has just as good of a chance if not better to win at BYU than at Penn St.

Agree!

I'm not a Kiffin fan, nor an LSU fan. Blake Baker, LSU's D-Coordinator, is getting a lot of rumors about becoming the next Tulane HC. Kiffen apparently wants him to stay, but being a HC for arguably the best G5 team is a big pull. If he travels the 90-minute drive to Tulane, I wonder how many of his recruits will follow him? Hope it's a lot.
I doubt any recruit is leaving LSU for Tulane unless Lane tells them he's recruiting over them. Even then most of those guys probably have their choice SEC school

This could be Penn State's "Fickell" moment where they hire someone so far removed from being a good fit that they tank their program worse.

BYU wasn't anything special under Sitake until the NIL era started. That's when he started getting elite results with the big money available to the private school that represents the entire LDS community. Way outspending a lot of the current Big XII

That may not be as easy to replicate (compared to their competition) at Penn State

supposedly sitakes contract is tiny comparatively to what PSU would pay him. Seems like BYU would have the means to pay the man however.

To me he's a meh coach. weird how his record has always been meh until 2 years ago with the B12 reconfiguring and being full of a bunch of teams that are ass. I'd be perfectly fine if PSU hires him as I don't see him lighting the recruiting world on fire nor being the "coordinator head coach" type who either makes the defense or offense really good where he goes. Have at it PSU

I think it’s crazy for him to move. He has a much more winnable schedule at BYU and the Mormons seems more reasonable than the folks in happy valley.

I think PSU currently is closer to Iowa, Minnesota, or Wisconsin than they are to Ohio State, Oregon, or Michigan.
