2024-2025

Continuing evidence of the problems this lousy schedule/RPI is going to cause: Charlie Creme's latest bracketology has 11 B1G teams in the NCAA tournament, none of them named Minnesota.
Earlier reports had them in, assuming they took a little hit with the Braun injury. First team out currently. Simple, beat Nebraska and back in!
I think I saw they released the first NET and the Gophers were at 31. Gophers also received 3 votes in the top 25 this week! It's a start.

First, this is last week's bracketology. I'm curious with the first NET of the season coming out and Gophers are at 31 (which would be solidly in NCAA tournament if season ended today) if Charlie brings us back up. I was confused why he dropped them in the first place...they were 63th team two weeks ago and without losing he dropped them to 69th (first team out) ....usually they have to acutally lose and look worse without Mara before they start to drop.

Minnesota's initial NET ranking (12/2/24) of 31 is a good start to making the tournament. Will be interesting to see how the new Quad system this year impacts tourney selection and, more likely, seeding. This season is the first season that the women's tournament committee is evaluating resumes by quadrants.

Quad 1 (home 1-25, neutral 1-35, away 1-45)
Quad 2 (home 26-55, neutral 36-65, away 46-80)
Quad 3 (home 56-90, neutral 66-105, away 81-130)
Quad 4 (home 91+, neutral 106+, away 131+)

To date, Minnesota has played 9 Quad 4 games (some of the commercial sites have it wrong because they have not updated their Quads to reflect the new women's quadrants, which are different than the men's). Minnesota's remaining 3 non-conference games are also Quad 4 games. Depending on their seasons, the games against SMU and Oregon State might move up from Quad 4 as time goes on. TBD

Yes, they are going to need to run the table with the non-conference schedule in my opinion(12-0) Looking at their Big 10 schedule, if we could shock Nebraska at Nebraska on Sunday, the next 4 Big 10 games should be ones we should be looking to win. @ Maryland, @USC, and @UCLA, @Ohio State and Iowa at home are going to be tough but if we could get 1 of them be looking good. If we were to go 11-7 in the Big 10 and be (23-7) that should get us into the NCAA tournament. 10-8 in Big 10 season with a good tournament showing would also get us in. 9-9 I fear would have to win the tournament then to get in. I do feel realistic chance could even go 12-6 and get a decent seed! Rooting for this team!

Here is the link to THIS WEEK's Bracketology updated this morning. You will see the Gophers are now completely off the bubble....and solidly predicted in the tournament as a 10 seed. Wanna still harp on schedule a month into the season?

Tcu at 40/1 for champ is a steal calling that now

Not sure what your deal is. When I posted the bracketology yesterday, it was indeed the "latest" one, as I said. The new one gives the Gophers a bit more love. But yes, the schedule will be a season-long problem, as evidenced by a currently undefeated team in a power conference being relegated to a possible 10 seed.

Forget the bubble and the tournament for a second. Are you really enjoying watching games where we're not being tested and winning by about 35 points per game? This type of schedule could be justified last year, but not now. It's not like we have a boatload of freshmen. Our juniors have started since they were freshmen, Grace started last year, and we have two experienced grad students contributing. It's a good thing tickets are relatively cheap because the games so far have been glorified scrimmages.

I have enjoyed watching this team. I swear some fans will never be happy.

I believe if a Big Ten team goes 9-9 in conference it would still be a good resume for the tourney. It’s the biggest and probably best conference and pulling off 9 victories would be quite a feat. Probably means you beat a few “good” resume building teams. Before the season I felt this year’s team would be above 9-9 in conference with Mara, maybe around 9-9 without her?

But yes the non conference schedule should be better, hopefully next year we see more of a challenge.

Sunday is going to be a big day! Be great to go on the road against a rated Big 10 team and get a W. Would really boost some confidence. We are an outside shooting team for the most part, so the obvious, we are going to need to shoot well!

And I’m sure if we lose everyone will be saying it’s because of the weak schedule. I think they’ll be ready to go! Go Gophs!

Doesn't matter if December bracketology has us in tournament. If we deserve it we will be in come March

I remember people on here talking about SDSU Jackrabbits and how the Gophers should play them cause they are so much better or a good test.

Today SDSU beat Montana 78-70...the same Montana team Gophers beat 84-45 (without Mara)

Just an FYI.

SDSU played them on their home court. Gophers played them at home.

SDSU also played ranked Texas, Creighton, Oregon, Duke, and a very good Georgia Tech team. Also beat Wisconsin by 20.

Reminder, Gophers have beat SDSU in closed scrimmages last two seasons (one home and one road)

and...are you saying the home court is worth 31 points? That is the difference between the wins of the teams over Montana.

Should be a realistic goal to win 5 of their next 6 Big 10 games.
