This was a really fun regular season. Wish my schedule allowed me to try to go to the home playoff games. Anyone with more knowledge than I have know what we need to make the big tournament?

I'm not saying I think we will win the conference tournament, but we've got enough quality wins to make me feel like we can compete with anyone and should be able to at least have a punchers chance in every game to keep the dream alive for a B1G tournament title.

I think it was 2018 when the Gophers were seeded number 8 (or maybe 7) and beat Penn State in the Championship game. So you never know. Seeding is less of an indicator at this point in the season than how a team has been playing. The Gophers are playing very well right now. Very impressive win on Sunday. Getting behind early did not discourage them. (although they have given up EARLY goals a bit too often this season.)

Big Ten honors for Gophers:

Khyah Harper - Big Ten Forward of the Year, First Team All Big Ten
Sophia Boman - First Team All Big Ten
Paige Kalal - Second Team All Big Ten
Ashley Thurk - All Big Ten Freshman Team
Elizabeth Overberg All Big Ten Sportsmanship Team

Prime spot for a set piece and Gophers complete shank it, then gives up the game winner from just outside the box seconds later. Can't make this shit up.🤣

The season continues!

MINNEAPOLIS - After a historic season at the helm of the program, head coach Erin Chastain reached another milestone Monday afternoon as the University of Minnesota soccer team received an at-large berth to the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship, the program's first bid since 2018.

Minnesota (12-4-3, 6-3-2 B1G) earned the No. 6 seed in the Columbia Regional and will host South Dakota State (15-4-2, 5-2-1 Summit League) on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. CT at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

The Golden Gophers are making their 12th tournament appearance, entering the field with a 9-10-1 all-time record. In its history, the program has hosted 11 NCAA Tournament matches. The Golden Gophers' longest runs came during the 2008 and 2010 seasons, when the Maroon and Gold reached the Sweet Sixteen, including hosting Georgetown in 2008.

This past season, Chastain led Minnesota to its first undefeated season regular season since 2008. Notably, it was the first time in program history the Gophers earned two top-15 victories in a single season.

A total of 64 teams were selected to the NCAA Tournament with 31 conferences being awarded automatic qualifications, while the remaining 33 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the bracket.

Huge win! Ties for the farthest we've ever gone!

My favorite part of the win was, after getting the goal ahead goal, we kept pressing and didn't drop into one of those absurd shells to try and nurse a 1 goal lead for half an hour. I watch a fair amount of the Loons and USMNT, and I can't remember the last time my team played in the other teams half of the field that much with a lead in the last 30 minutes. It's almost like having possession of the ball and keeping it on the other side of the field is a good way to not get scored on.

Got completely outplayed by UNC, you could definitely see the difference in skill level.

Not surprising but a good step towards getting there. NC is one of the true blue bloods. Need to get to the tournament each year and try to improve
Saying NC is a true blue blood might be understating it a bit, they have won 21 of the 42 NCAA women's soccer titles ever awarded. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I_women's_soccer_tournament

I was very pleased with this season, I hope they can perform well next year and make the NCAA tournament again. I don't know how they will perform replace the production of the players they lost, especially Harper, Boman, Romine and Overberg. Harper seems especially hard to replace besides given the obvious scoring output she had, she also had excellent dribbling and a burst of speed that helped here breakdown the defense that I haven't seen anyone already on the team with. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

This was a great season. Hopefully we can contend for a B1G title soon. I don't see this as unrealistic as their is a lot of parity in the conference, it got 7 teams into the Sweet 16, but only 1 got to the next round, showingthat we could have done it in a year like this. Probably a down year for the blue bloods in the conference, but that means opportunity for a team like the Gophers.

The coach has a huge incoming freshmen class. More than one will need to duplicate what Ashley Thurk did this season. It sure doesn't look like there are many underclassmen who did not start or get regular minutes with the potential to be impact players next year. Otherwise, they would have been on the field during meaningful minutes. Maybe a surprise or two there.

I don't know if some on the roster were redshirting. I hope that's the case. Maybe some contributors there.

That leaves the transfer portal. I think there will need to be several older players join the team if they have any chance of making the Big Ten Tournament or the NCAA tournament. The two Sophies, Harper's fantastic season and Overberg's leadership with the defense were the main reason this team was a successful as it was. All are moving on I think (or does Harper have a season left).

This team was so much fun to watch. I wish all the exiting players the best in their futures. Thanks for a great season.

North Carolina beat Duke 3-0 in the SEMI-FINAL. That makes the 3-0 outcome of the Gopher game with North Carolina look better.
Would have liked to see a Big Ten team in the semi-finals.
Go GOPHERS! Will be interesting to see where some of the graduating players end up.
Anyone know where that kind of info is available?
