2023-2024 Gophers Basketball Schedule Thread

Any idea when the full schedule will be released??

I always find it ridiculous that college basketball can't figure out a way to get these finalized and out at least 6 months in advance.
No reason they can’t get this done well ahead of the season opener.

And I think they should schedule St Thomas.

Still room to schedule 1 more game.

I feel like they are just not going to announce an 11th game and act like they planned for 10 all along. Ben!

What do you believe deadline is for announcing final schedule?
I don’t think they’ll announce non-conference schedule separately. Have a feeling that’ll come at some time Big Ten schedule is released. Big Ten schedule should be out any day now.

Interesting. Guess we'll see.

Quad 1 games: Zero
Quad 2 games: 2: home against Mizzou and @ USF (it's listed as neutral, but I'm counting it as away which is why it gets a Q2 instead of a Q3)
Quad 3 games: 1: Ball State - the cutoff for Q3 home games is #160, and by the time 12/21 rolls around, it could be a Q4.
Quad 4 games: 8 - everyone else.

Also, 10 home games and one away game that's not at their campus arena.

Schedule absolutely sucks. I'm guessing we'll end up with 9 Q4 games out of 11, which is fucking pathetic. Just go ahead and throw those wins out at the end of the year. If the staff was looking to schedule the worst OOC in the country they succeeded.
It’s going to (again) be a strong candidate for Dukie V’s annual “Cupcake City” schedule award.

Per Marcus, we are set:

Non-conference schedule set

The Gophers secured their final opponent for the 2023-24 nonconference schedule, which will be a Dec. 9 matchup with Florida Gulf Coast.

Florida Gulf Coast is led by former Penn State coach Pat Chambers, who went 17-15 in his first season with the program in 2022-23. The Eagles were known as "Dunk City" when current USC coach Andy Enfield made a Sweet 16 run in 2013. They last made the NCAA tournament with East Carolina's Joe Dooley in 2016 and 2017.

The highlight of Gophers' non-league slate will be a Nov. 16 game vs. Missouri at Williams Arena, which was part of a home-and-home agreement to also be played in Columbia in the 2024-25 season.

The Gophers begin the regular season Nov. 6 against Bethune Cookman at Williams Arena. Prior to the opener, they'll host Division III Macalester on Nov. 2 in an exhibition game.

Go Gophers!!

Anything worse than a 9-2 non-conference warrants Thorson being interim coach by New Year's.
I'd rather it be Jenkins. "The one of us" narrative could get him the job if he gets 4-5 B1G wins.

I am not sure I've ever seen a schedule like this from a Big Ten team. From formerlybis excellent breakdown 8 and perhaps 9 of these games appear destined for Quad 4 with likely zero Quad 1 opportunites. Even an 11-0 start does very little for the resume and we're kind of taking ourselves out of the running for being like an 9-11 Big Ten team in an (allegedly) good conference getting to the right side of the bubble.

This seems like a very transparent attempt to count wins and cite improvement. 9-2 and 7-13 in conference play (or 10-1 and 6-14) gets the Gophers to 16-15 and a "winning record". The cynic in me believes the schedule was set up for this exact purpose. I hope I am wrong and the fan base/administration is smarter than that.

Have the Gophers had a schedule that would rival this in recent years? I admittedly haven't been paying attention this offseason but this isn't going to bring people back. Just garbage.

For reference, last year's OOC schedule was ranked #348 according to the NET. That had 3 top 100 teams. This schedule projects to have ONE. This is by far the worst schedule the Gophers have ever played, and honestly, is one of the worst schedules I can ever remember a P5 team having. The avg NET of last years opponents were 218.4. Obviously this year's slate is MUCH lower. It's pathetic.
