2023-2024 College Basketball Other Games Thread

Big one in the Mountain West as San Diego State visits Nevada. The Aztecs trying to stay on top of the heap with the other three 1st place teams and the Wolf Pack looking to make up some lost ground. Log jam conference.
edit: Apologies, was thinking this one was tonight. Friday night.

Was a big game in the American Athletic Conference couple of days ago which I completely missed. South Florida beat Charlotte 72-69.
Gives the Bulls 14 wins in their last 15 contests. Possible big collision coming up with Florida Atlantic.
Geeze, Memphis has had a hard go of it lately. How do you lose to Rice at home?

Penny gets talent but hasn’t established a winning culture. I

Simple answer? Penny is a terrible coach. Watch their games, wooof.

Another answer, most of their non con good will is aging poorly.

14 of 15 is pretty great! Don't know that I've ever experienced that from a team I followed.

Charlotte's leading scorer is Lu'Cye Patterson who is from Minneapolis and played at Minnesota Prep Academy and Brooklyn Center High before that.

Hopefully then can keep winning and crack the top 75 so our win over them becomes a Q1 road win.

Meh. They are 100 right now. To climb 25 spots they will basically have to win out. WHich 1. Wont happen and 2. If it did its likely pushing other teams down quadrants too.

For example. Say Iowa losses this game and then to us Sunday. They will be lucky to still be a Q1 win at that point.

PSU really coming on here. 3 straight wins all by double digits. Have a chance to play big time spoiler.

Good for him but he's not our coach. He already has a job and makes about a million more per year than Ben makes here.
Rhodes lost nearly every player. He had 6 wins in conference thus far, in his first season. Interesting. Does his salary wean more wins?

Chance to play spoiler is right - next 3 are at Northwestern, Michigan State at home, at Nebraska - PSU's opponents really need each one of those. Gotta give Rhoades a little credit hanging in at .500 in the league at this point with a Year Zero-style roster.

Yeah, I thought he did pretty good in the portal. They have everyone eligible to come back too outside of Wahab. Doesn't mean everyone will, but they can if they'd like.

Detroit Mercy took it's 25th straight loss today. Wow, Mike Davis is really having a rough go of it. Been to 8 NCAA tournaments. Was in the National Championship game and this year just can't get a win.

Penn State with 6 wins. Rhodes year one.

You & others seem to love Rhoades. In this thread and other threads.

He inherited his by-far leading scorer, Clary.

And he was already a head coach. He brought 2 starters from VCU with him.

They lose Wahab after this year. 3rd leading scorer, 8.0 rebs...no one else averages more than 4.0.

He has 1 rated recruit. #78 on Rivals.

I wouldn't rush to trade places with Penn State.

Didn't you Ben detractors love Shrewsberry? He must be a real bum...he's 7-16 (2-10) at Notre Dame.

Only 3 Division 1 games today? Think that’s correct.
Dayton @ VCU
San Diego State @ Nevada
San Jose State @ Colorado State

He didn't inherit Clary. Clary entered the portal and Rhodes convinced him to stay.

Rhodes has a track record of success his whole career. Props to PSU for making a monetary commitment to basketball. Getting the HC at VCU is a great get considering the previous ones have gone to LSU, Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma.

No one is rushing to trade places, but given the program and roster turnover, he's been pretty good this year.

First time I mentioned Rhoads. Did anyone say anything about trading coaches?

Interesting to see what he has done on year one in the big 10.
