2020 Recruiting

You can add Aaliyah Edwards to that list. An outstanding talent.

With the July Period over, here is the (to my knowledge) updated listed for 2020 players with offers from the gophers. Please feel free to correct me if I am missing one or one of players listed had removed gophers from their list or gophers have backed off that player.

Alyssa Ustby-Rochester Lourdes-6’2 Guard/Forward

Out of State Offers:

Leilani Kapinus, 5-10 G, Madison Memorial HS (WI) ESPN Ranked #10
Priscilla Williams, 6’2 G, Branson HS, (MO) ESPN Ranked #12
Deja Kelly, 5’8 PG, Duncanville HS (TX) ESPN Ranked #19
Aaliyah Edwards, 6’2 W, Canada, ESPN Ranked #22
Lauren Ware, 6’3 PF, Century HS (ND) ESPN ranked #30 (Top 5 List is Gophers, UCLA, Tennessee, Arizona and Texas)
Gabby Elliott, 5’10 W, Detroit Edison HS (MI) ESPN Ranked #47
Alexia Smith, 5’8 PG, Columbus HS (OH) ESPN Ranked #50

Halle Douglass, 6’1 W, Lake Forest HS (IL) ESPN Ranked #94
Treasure Thompson, 6-3 C, Bolingbrook HS (IL) ESPN Ranked #96
Sarah Te-Biasu , 5’3 PG, Canada

Also by my count, if no player transfers, with the Gopher's current roster, they only have 3 available scholarships for the class of 2020 to reach scholarship number of 15.

You can add Annika Stewart 6’2” forward from Wayzata to your list of offers.

Five-star recruit Lauren Ware is officially visiting the Arizona Wildcats this weekend, per a source.

The 6-foot-5 post player is the No. 30 player in the 2020 class, according to ESPN. Ware recently released her top five, which includes Arizona, UCLA, Tennessee, Texas and Minnesota.

If the Wildcats land her, she would be the second-highest ranked recruit the school has ever reeled in, only behind sophomore forward Cate Reese, who was the No. 12 player in 2018 and averaged 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds as a freshman in 2018-19.
...
Ware is also a standout volleyball player and hopes to play both sports in college. Arizona is willing to let her, according to a source.

Arizona’s 2019 recruiting class did not include any American-born players, and so far its 2020 class only includes Turkish point guard Derin Erdogan.

Updated Known 2020 finalist lists:

-Leilani Kapinus, 5-10 G, Madison Memorial HS (WI) ESPN Ranked #10 (Top 15 List: Arizona, Auburn, Baylor, Duke, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan St, Gophers, Ohio St, and Wisconsin)

-Lauren Ware, 6’3 PF, Century HS (ND) ESPN ranked #30 (Top 5 List: Gophers, UCLA, Texas, Arizona, and Tennessee)

-Gabby Elliott, 5’10 W, Detroit Edison HS (MI) ESPN Ranked #47 (Top 6 List: Gophers, Maryland, North Carolina, Pitt, Clemson, and Marquette)

Quick sidenote. Ustby was said to plan to make decision by end of July. Meaning we might hear something today or tomorrow? Maybe end of the week?

Had Stewart been offered by the Gophers?

Stewart had an offer from the Gophers. She will most likely be a role player at the Big 10 level.

That’s disappointing to hear. Heal fast Lauren.

Nebraska came in late but came away with Annika Stewart.

Nebraska was not in the picture for Annika Stewart before the summer started.

But a lot changed in a small window of time.

Stewart began talking to Husker assistant coach Tom Goehle, and within weeks, the 6-foot-3 forward from Plymouth, Minnesota, was on the Nebraska campus for an official visit.
...

“It feels like I made the right decision, and even though it was really tough saying no to some schools, I just feel like Nebraska’s perfect and I feel very happy with where I’m at,” Stewart said.

The Huskers will be adding a versatile post player who isn’t afraid to step outside and shoot threes. In fact, she’s pretty good at knocking down the three-ball.

“I’ve just always liked to shoot,” Stewart said.

Stewart also was considering Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. In fact, Stewart’s sister Hannah just wrapped up a standout career at Iowa.

Some news. Gophers did not make top 5 list for 12th Rated espn player Priscilla Williams who took an unofficial visit to gophers. Her top 5: Florida St, SMU, Louisville, Mississippi St and Syracuse.

She's the real deal. The Gophers will be happy to have her.

Nothing new. Minnesota is still in the driver's seat.

Her AAU team tweeted out her top/final 5 list of

Gophers, North Carolina, Pitt, Utah and Northwestern.

I would like to feel that the Gophers program and coaching staff could out recruit the teams on that list but who knows. I am also not sure if her end of july goal was just for the final list or not. If FiveOut is correct, it sounds like she is Minnesota's player to lose.

Any word on Utsby?

Not a good look when the AAU team tweets about a player's situation that she's trying to keep quiet. Pitt and North Carolina are kind of late to the game but obviously interesting enough to pay attention to. That has probably delayed the decision date.

Thanks for the update. Go Gophers!
