I wonder if Destiny Pitts who was a former HS team mate of Jasmine will weigh heavily in the Gopher's favor.

Didn’t seem to work for that other teammate of hers.

Deja Church but she wasn’t a team mate. They were just friends!

Wasn’t she a teammate? Maybe they were just friends.

They both did their visit here together but didn't play on same AAU team nor high school team. Church came from same high school as the Bello sisters. I think this is the first D1 prospect from Pitts High School.

Yeah, Deja Church was who I was thinking about. They were fellow Miss Basketball candidates but not teammates (unless maybe on AAU). Church WAS teammates with the Bello twins, so I guess you could say the Bello twins weren’t a big enough draw for Church.

I’m just realizing how Michigan this team has tried and are still trying to be. Is going after teammates of already established Gophers kind of taking the easy route? I guess if they’re really worth going after, then it’s best to play that card.

Some official visits by the committed 2019's.

The first three players to commit to Whalen in the 2019 class were Stillwater guard Sara Scalia, Des Moines Roosevelt (Iowa) forward Grace Cumming and Des Moines East wing Justice Ross, who are all currently on their official visits on the U campus.

...

Scalia was able to stop by one of the Gopher practices when Whalen was still coaching and playing for the Minnesota Lynx.

“It’s really fun to watch the practices,” Scalia said. “It’s really cool to see her coaching. She knows the game really well. Her and her coaching staff are fun to watch. Players obviously loving playing for them. Her coaches run a lot of the stuff in practice. She can be pretty intense sometimes, but she’ll throw in a joke every once in awhile.”

...

Cumming and Ross grew up playing hoops on the same Iowa traveling teams, but one of their best memories was driving down to the Twin Cities to watch a Lynx game together in the seventh grade.

“We went up with my dad to a Lynx game and took a picture in front of the court,” Cumming said. “That’s pretty cool. Now we’ll be playing for one of the players we were watching back when we were middle schoolers. I’ve always loved her toughness and grit. When she’s out there you can just see the competitiveness. I’ve always thought that was the coolest thing ever.”

According to the Champaign News-Gazette, Klarke Sconiers is making her official visit to Illinois this coming weekend.

Hopefully, she'll schedule a visit to MN before she makes up her mind.

So the commits for 2019 right now are Sara Scalia, Grace Cumming, and Justice Ross. Are there only 2 other 2019 players with gopher offers, Jasmine Powell and Klarke Sconiers?

If they can sign Powell and Sconiers that will be a good MN recruiting class.

I'm befuddled as to why anyone would choose Illinois over Minnesota. It's been a while since that program has put it together and I'm not sure they're currently headed in the right direction.

Maybe she wants to be an engineer? Idk. My dad went to Illinois back in the 60’s. He was a double major in math and computer science. He ended up working for Lockheed Martin for 40 years. It was considered one of the top engineering schools in the country at the time. Idk if it’s still ranked as high.

Any insight to where she’ll go? I’m feeling optimistic but have nothing to back that up.

Apparently Sconier’s school was touched by an angel (I mean, LeBron James).

"When he walked in, it was kind of just surreal," said senior forward Clarke Sconiers. "To see that he took time out of his day to come here and give back, that meant a lot to us."

"We won't shut up and dribble," Sconiers declared to applause from her teeammates. "We'll try to do more for the girls' game and the boys' game."

Klarke Sconiers, 6-2, power forward, iExcel Junior Walter (Rosedale, New York)

Sconiers is a blue collar, physical, lunch bucket, in-the-paint operator. Her motto is hit the boards early and often.

Heres a scouting report from this summers aau event.

Do we even know how good she is? Not top 100, right?

She's grown to 6'3" now, maybe growth spurt still on-going? 3-star, scouts grade = 89, ranks #29 among posts. By extrapolating the 2019 HoopGurlz espnW 100 ( http://www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/rankings/_/class/2019 ) rankings, that puts her at an estimated ranking of #110 overall.

Eval at Nike Tournament of Champions-December 2016: Low-post performer with emerging back-to-the-basket game; defensive presence in key, shot blocker; rebounds and initiates fast break.

From the latter, it seems like the Minnesota Coaching Staff sees her potential to be a strong defensive-minded post player, aligned with their defensive goals, who is continuing to grow offensively.

Her high school is apparently a longstanding basketball powerhouse (no doubt part of the reason why La Bron chose them not only for free sneakers, but also custom-designed collectible "Christ the King" sneakers in their school colors). Sue Bird and Tina Charles went to high school there.

Interestingly, a couple of her classmates are also ranked players. Including a #85 guard committed to Florida; and an uncommitted 5-star 6' Wing ranked #39 (Kaelynn Satterfield).
