12/27 - Rashad Vaughn will NOT attend the U

If Vaughn is 1 & done & goes elsewhere, I don't think he'd be as big a loss as Travis - not only would he only be around one year, he plays the 2/3 which are the easiest positions to get good talent at. Sometimes it's better to get a great 4-year player than have a guy who all the rival fans think you are underperforming with when in reality the kid has NBA on his mind all year and doesn't buy in to being the best teammate he can be. I'm not saying Vaughn is in that problem child territory, but it's more frequent than you would like to see that 1 & done kids will do their thing and have no repercussions because they know their coach is basically a lame duck who only has him for one year and has to play him because he's too good to leave on the bench and may not be able to get any more talented players if he flat out benches a top rated player.

Part of the reason I'm not that high on him either... Although Vaughn is ranked higher, I would much rather have Reid or a solid 4 year player. Plus, I think were pretty set at the SF position with Oto

Who are we kidding? Vaughn is the difference next year between being an NIT team and a realistic sweet 16 team.

Anyone who says they don't really care about getting Vaughn because he's likely to be one and done are basically saying they don't really care about next season.

I never said I don't care about getting Vaughn, I said he'd still be great to have... I would just rather have a solid 4 year guy that's maybe ranked a little lower than a 1 and done like Vaughn

I didn't think so at the time, but I think his move to the prep school in Vegas may have sealed our fate. It hasn't felt like we have had as much momentum with him as we would have otherwise.

In any case, it's all about the NBA for him. Seems like a Hoiberg NBA connection might be tough to circumvent.

Paul Biancardi tweeted today that Minnesota may be the team to beat for Vaughn. Some of you just need to calm down, it's far from over.

Get your hopes up, my friends! We'll probably be in for another roller coaster ride with Vaughn, haha.

Wouldn't bet on it. Minnesota may be team to beat. RWalkerII: @PaulBiancardi #AskCoachB what are the odds UNLV gets Vaughn?”

Paul Biancardi ‏@PaulBiancardi 25m Been there unofficially many times. Don't count them out. “@kas4488: @PaulBiancardi he won't even visit MN... Book it”

I can't follow a guy that tweets that often.

Not sure to whom you are directing your suggestion to "calm down", but it seems that we should all be able to post our opinion on the likelihood of Rashad Vaughn coming to school on the Rashad Vaughn thread? In my case, I used the same words "may have" and "might be" that you did in your post. I agree that it's far from over.

I would have followed up that 2nd tweet with a question: How many elite prospects have committed to a hometown school without using one of their 5 officials on them? I can't think of an example of that happening in the past. So it is hard to get too excited knowing we won't get an official.

Yeah....we won't need to work too hard to get to 100 on this one.

I wasn't directing it to anyone in particular. The general tone of this thread had seemed to be pretty negative lately about our chances.

I'm surprised people still think we're in it for Vaughn. I thought once he left for Findlay that was going to be the last we saw of him. Just as I was looking forward to the 2015 class i'm pulled right back in to 2014 with Vaughn...

Even if we don't get Rashad, I'd like our 4th and final scholarship for this class be a wing. Our system demands lanky athletic wings that can disrupt the passing lanes more than anything. We already lack those type of players on our roster and are going to be losing our best (Austin) after this year. I think we'll be ok with Martin, King, Oto, and Buggs at the 4. It won't be a strength, but all 4 guys are unique enough to allow us to pick and choose matchups depending on our opponents strengths and weaknesses.

Just kill me now.

I heard that Vaughn was going to announce his decision in the De La Salle gymnasium at 3:30 this Friday.

I remember thinking after the Reid debacle id never get my hopes up nor follow a recruit like that again.

Less than a week later ... IT'S RASHAD VAUGHN TIME! I'm all in!

Fight the urge, man. I went all-in believing Travis was going to stay home. I won't do it again. Being a life-long Minnesota sports fan, I just won't do it again!

Ah you guys, screw Vaughn, it's time to be ALL-IN THIS FRIDAY!!!! TYUS IS GOING TO SHOCK THE WORLDZ!11!!!1!1!!

I personally think the chances of Vaughn signing with the Gophers are only slightly higher than Jones, probably not going to happen, but a slim possibility. Vaughn is going to look at the success the Gophers have this year more than the other two, if they perform way above expectations I think the chances increase dramatically.

I'm hoping for a center to fill the last spot, I'd hate to wait and depend on a freshman or a Juco to be the only centers in 2015.

I refuse to get as excited as I did about Reid again. I can't take that anymore.

I'm assuming he is going to be a Cyclone/Rebel/Tar Heel through the end of the recruitment process. If he ends up being a Gopher, then I'll simply be wrong. I'd be wrong, but incredibly happy! That's how I want it to be. Expect the worst, be ecstatic and surprised otherwise! Is not really a motto to live by, but for recruiting, it'll work.

So you wouldn't be interested in one of the 500 Rashad Vaughn Gopher jerseys I just ordered then ... ?

Big mistake. Vaughn signs with The University of Phoenix, the newest affiliation of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

I heard that Vaughn was going to announce his decision in the De La Salle gymnasium at 3:30 this Friday.

Pitino has been seen actively recruiting the parents. Vaughn was heard to say, "My parents always wanted to tell people that they have a son going to Minnesota".

UCSB is pounding UNLV in Las Vegas tonight- 77-53 with 5 minutes to go. I hope Rashad is in attendance for that one....
