#1 player in the country might flip to Deion Sanders

I wonder how it works with NIL if the athlete is being offered money from a gambling organization. You would think there may be a conflict of interest but who knows...
Barstool already sponsors hundreds of athletes. Unless there is a penalty for giving some athletes more than they give other athletes…any issue with barstool participating in NIL should’ve already happened
A gambling organization paying money to a teenager. He is playing collage football. Nobody see's this as a danger to the integrity of the sport?
Minnesota's NIL policy precludes agreements to promote gambling. I'd guess most other schools do as well. I don't think that any of Barstool's NIL deals involve promotion of sports betting. Penn National Gaming has a sizeable stake in Barstool and, as part of that agreement, uses the Barstool name on gaming businesses. But it's not the same company. I don't think student-athletes would be allowed to promote Penn National, at least not in most states.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. Must be a non-issue then.

Big question with Deon is how long he stays. Once he goes I think a lot of the higher rated guys that committed there will follow.

One story said he has already interviewed for multiple power 5 jobs. So doesn't seem like he intends to spend a ton of time at Jackson State.
Deion will go to Florida State soon. I just can't see how this doesn't happen.

When that happens, JSU will no longer get the same caliber of recruits.

I can't be the only one who has no idea what this even is. Anyone able to explain?
I think it's just a guy calling into some sort of podcast/show screaming about the FSU program, specifically that they lost the Jacksonville State in football and Jackson State in recruiting.

He also wanted them to hire Prime.

I like it that he is shitting on FSU. Will it start a trend of quality prospects committing to HBCU's over P5? There has some of that for basketball IIRC.
Someone has to break the ice and good for him - who knows, maybe NILs will help level the playing field.

also think comments made that he won’t reach his potential are silly as Deion knows what it takes to be a pro and my guess is the coaching he’ll receive is top shelf. They were 11-1 this year, so my guess is coach Prime is more competent at his job than a bunch of middle aged men on an anonymous free chat board - 🤦‍♂️

Walter Payton and Jerry Rice find your post amusing - there are 3 dozen HBCU alums in The Pro Football Hall of Fame bro
Well aware. We’ll see where it goes for the kid. He transfers the second Sanders leaves.

I also think the guys in the Hall of Fame earned it. This kid is following money.

Glad u are the arbitrator of this young man’s motives and actions.

Odd, you would think that FSU would have access to more NIL cash than Jackson State.

I posit that anyone who receives scholarship at any school “earned it”, let alone playing pro football or making the HOF; or like Deion Played 2 sports professionally and has enjoyed a successful post playing career. He has a specific brand, just like a certain football coach located in MN.🧐

Just an interesting situation. NIL’s affect and Deion affect.

This is the blueprint for how David can defeat Goliath

We're just getting started on some creative new ways to win, and potentially some unexpected new power programs. Jackson State probably won't be that over the long term, but at least a couple of total FBS randoms are going to turn into powers in the coming years via innovative use of NIL.

Keep an eye on: Arkansas (Jerry Jones), Indiana (Mark Cuban), Michigan St (Dan Gilbert), Houston (Tilman Fertitta), and Pitt (David Tepper). Each have billionaire alums with serious interest in sports, many of whom have already given heavy to their alma mater. Throw in BYU with the potential backing of the LDS church.

sanders has a ton of talent coming into jackson state by transfers and recruits. I just checked their commits on 247 and their top 14 recruits all time have come from either the 2021 class or the 2022 class

so can someone ELI5 what NIL is and how it benefits the parties involved?

As is his right. Suppose he doesn't make it big time, or gets hurt. He'll have a nice nest egg to start with.

Wait till deion is sitting at a power 5 job...

But If your a d.b why not go to Jackson state and learn from the goat....

I'm an old man and I can remember when the HBCUs produced a wealth of talent for the NFL. Then the SEC started recruiting black players and the HBCUs--while still producing some great talent--lost a lot of depth of talent. Grambling under Eddie Robinson produced a ton of pro players.

Really....it's not a bad idea. Instead of going to a helmet school and sitting behind a logjam of talent....go learn from one of the best of all time for a couple years....and use the free transfer to jump to power 5 and start then.

It’s definitely a new world. At least he doesn’t have to worry about Clemson tampering with him.

Txs for your post

My college football fandom started at the tail end of Grambling’s epic run - amazing how nay young men Eddie helped both in football and more importantly in life. Grumbling vs. Southern on Thanksgiving and the epic battle of the bands at halftime was must watch TV back in the day.
HBCUs can use all the publicity they can get to keep them viable institutions - do from that perspective alone, this is a win.

It seems that ESPN is starting to highlight the HBCUs more these past few years. How much it has to do with Sanders being at JSU? I'm sure it doesn't hurt. Especially now that he's bringing in more and more talent.

On the basketball end of things....Chris Paul put his name on a tournament called the HBCU Tip-Off at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, which was new this year.

Txs for the info/post - maybe I can head to CT in the future for a look see at that tourney

For the very top players, it might now be all about the $$. Florida legislator introduces new NIL friendly law after FSU loses top recruit in the country … says legislation is unrelated to loss of commit.🤣

You been to Jackson?

He may surprise me but, I can't see Deion grinding the head coach thing for 10 years or more. Doesn't need the money or the headaches. Finding entertainment in Jackson has to be killing him. Is he married? We will see. Like I said, I may be wrong and this turns into his passion. Also, can he actually coach?
