Richard Pitino on Gophers senior Michael Hurt: 'The classiest kid I've coached'

I kind of feel bad because I sort of blasted Hurt's playing abilities replying to a Gopher MBB posting on Instagram. He seems like a tremendous kid, smart, I am sure he is going places in life outside of basketball. It's too bad we couldn't have used his Scholi for someone better though. Same...

A stat that may surprise you (it surprised me)

That Maryland game was when I was done with Pitino. That may have been his worst loss ever.

A stat that may surprise you (it surprised me)

Finishing games too. Like not making stupid turnovers in the last few minutes while inbounding the ball. The Gophers run terrible offensive plays too in the last 5 minutes of every game it seems. Pitino's teams are so confused on how to break a press. Sure, he may have recruited shooters that...

All Things 2019-2020 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

' Beasley looks like a steal! I was hoping they'd be able to get Michael Porter Jr. from the Nugs, but so far I am really liking Beasley's hustle, athleticism, shooting ability and leadership for a 23 year old seems there. He could end up being like Bradley Beal. Way too early to say that but so...

A stat that may surprise you (it surprised me)

Pitino has never recruited consistent shooters. His teams are always near the bottom in FG efficiency. That's been a huge detriment this year in particular. If we had two consistent shooters this season could have played out differently with all the close games. I wouldn't call Gabe or Willis...

Would Minnesota accept a CBI bid ?

:ROFLMAO: Sarcasm, but I felt like posting it for some reason.

Would Minnesota accept an NIT bid?

And, they're now 13-16. They'd need to beat NEB (which should happen) and at least win 2 in the BTT. Probably 3 because we'll open with NW. This team is defeated. I am now on board with sitting it out. Canning Pitino and starting over.

Would Minnesota accept an NIT bid?

Officially on the NIT bubble now! 13-16. Need to beat Neb and NW for sure now.

Would Minnesota accept an NIT bid?

This is why I posted this. Assuming if they fire Pitino at that timeframe. Would the team just pack it in for next year...I would also be enthused to watch the Freshman play as some have also pointed out. It would be great experience for them to learn.

    How Many Coaches

Haskins (First coach I remember from when we had Voshon Leonard and Bobby Jackson and Quincy Lewis and Kevin Clark I was young!) Monson Molinari Tubby Pitino

Would Minnesota accept an NIT bid?

Frankly, they have work to do to be considered for the NIT, but let's say they finish at .500 or one game above. Hypothetically, that would get them a spot in the NIT. Would the team even accept? I'd figure Oturu would opt not to play. I wouldn't be all that excited to watch, but it might be...

Anybody listening to the Pitino show?

You can tell he's knows he's fighting for his job. But, I agree with you all pretty much. No more excuses! Every team deals with drama, injuries, players leaving early. Michigan State seems to have injuries every year and consistently reach the FF. Not comparing Pitino to Izzo, but...

Expectations for next year if Oturu returns

They better be damn good if Oturu stays and they retain Pitino. Pitino will be on the thinnest ice. I would expect a Sweet 16 run or better.

    Hypothetical question...

I posted something similar last week in comparing this team to Michigan 10 years ago. They stuck with Bilien and were fantastic after that mediocre season. That's a tough question. I doubt Outru sticks around though. He has to be a to 20 NBA draft pick. He just keeps getting better. I think we...

Jace Frederick: Mediocrity no longer enough for Gophers men’s basketball

Pitino is like a Ford Focus. We should aim for a BMW or Mercedes like we got with Fleck :)

Sid: Tubby is 9-20, Monson is 10-18, Molinari is an assistant at Oklahoma State

I think Tubby got screwed a little bit when he was at Minnesota. He should have had Royce White, Al Nolen got hurt, Devoe Joseph would have stuck around if we had White. We had good players in Hoffarber and Mbakwe. Could have been a Sweet 16 team a few years in a row. Maybe even a FF. ?

That was a tough one.....Mentally tough

Valid points. This speaks to Pitino's inability to ever have depth on his teams. We have a D2 bench.

This team reminds me of the 2009-2010 Michigan Wolverines

I agree 100% with you. Last night may have been the nail in the coffin. But, there's always things to analyze and think about. I think I trust in Coyle after seeing his magic with the football team.

That was a tough one.....Mentally tough

I can't blame it all on Pitino last night. There was a ton of low basketball IQ mistakes made that should not be made at this level. Hence, inbounding the basketball. Gabe has really been awful offensively this season. He's mentally not there offensively. Wasn't even close on his free-throws...
