***OFFICIAL MISSOURI AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Pretty bad in-game coaching by Johnson if you can even call it that. How about a timeout when your guys have no idea what to do on offense for six consecutive possessions? Hawkins is hurting the team.

    New Mexico Lobos Hype

Not sure about them being a Final 4 team but I've been rooting for Pitino at NM. Much like Tubby, he had some bad luck with player behavior and injuries during a critical for his program and its hard to win at Minnesota under the best of circumstances.

All Things 2024 Daniel Freitag Recruitment Thread (Gophers Have Offered)

Good riddance and good luck. BTW, The Badgers play a $hit style of basketball and they suck. Not saying the Gophers don't.

Ta’lon Cooper will test the NBA Draft waters, while maintaining his eligibility, and will also put his name into transfer portal

Agree, but hope ain't a strategy. In the event that we DO NOT land that impact PG, what are the options on the roster? Can Christie cover a good chunk of those minutes? I vaguely recall CBJ mentioning Ihnen playing some point forward/PG had he not been injured. Now that would be a sight.

    Jaden Henley commits to DePaul

And gray as $hit. Lived there for 6. Weather not a factor in this kids decision. Who knows why left.

Jamison Battle to enter the Transfer Portal

Battle got the same looks he had last year and missed most of them. He will certainly do better on a team with more offensive options so that he is not the subject of game planning by opposing coaches. Good luck to him. Hope coaching staff can develop an elbow jumper for Payne. If not, it...

Jamison Battle to enter the Transfer Portal

B1G record in the five seasons after the magical 10-8 year : 6-12; 4-16; 3-17; 6-13; 7-13. Numerous transfers out. By rights, gone. But here he is.

Their coach is a butt-head. Glad to see them lose.

Jamison Battle to enter the Transfer Portal

No, two years is not long enough. There are more than a few examples in history where patience with a struggling, early-career (insert profession here) individual paid off in the long run. By rights, Chris Collins should probably not be coaching Northwestern this weekend, but he is.

Jamison Battle to enter the Transfer Portal

The cons of firing a newly hired coach after Year 2 (minus just cause) are greater than the pros, IMO. Coaches stick together and the word would be out to avoid MN and Coyle at all costs. Plus, there was no way Year 2 was going to lead to more than a handful of wins given the status of the...

Jamison Battle to enter the Transfer Portal

Maybe Battle can rejuvenate somewhere else like Kalscheur did at Iowa State. Not sure what his deal was this year (regression to the mean?) but his shooting was awful.

    Henley in portal

Ultimately the ticket (and subscription) paying fan will have to weigh in. As things stand there is no penalty for the free-for-all insanity that has become college basketball.

    Henley in portal

Easy come, easy go, but yes, college basketball is a mess. The product is terrible and NIL and transfer rules have destabilized rosters to the point of absurdity. At some point you would think the viewing public would tune out and the billion dollar TV deals would dry up, but it has not...

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

Strongly disagree with this. Battle had a disastrous season (possibly due to injury and for other reasons I don't understand) and his productivity could be replaced, for instance, by a healthy Isaiah Ihnen. Payne and Garcia are absolutely one of the best returning front court tandems in the...

Doug Gottlieb: Pharrel Payne can play for me anytime. Kid plays hard and is athletic and strong.

I hope to God he is not 270 lbs next year. Would seriously impact his quickness and likely predispose to injury (see Zion Williamson). He needs an elbow jumper and a jump hook. Lots of reps for him this summer I hope.

All Things 2022-2023 College Basketball Coach Hire/Fire Thread

Just a little. Will be interesting to see where the respective programs are after Year 3.

All Things 2022-2023 College Basketball Coach Hire/Fire Thread

He's now available. Craig Smith might also be re-available in the next couple years given current results and so-so returning talent. As I recall he's the guy everyone on this board wanted a couple years ago.

Who should be our next Coach?

None of the above. No established coach would join a program that fired its head coach after only two seasons. The idea that CBJ could build a competitive roster completely from scratch in two years is ludicrous. If the AD who took a flyer on him were now to fire him, he too should be fired.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS COVID-POSTPONED IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

JOJ has plenty of athleticism and growth potential of defense. He will be a stud beginning next year if CBJ prioritizes him getting the ball.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS COVID-POSTPONED IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Spot-on assessment. I like our (bad) team. They play hard; they willingly defend; they have good body language despite the losing, etc., but they struggle in the skill and quickness departments for sure, and they are the worst collection of shooters we've ever seen in MN. Unfortunately they...
