    Taurus Samuels Commits to Gophers!!

Nice write up on Samuels this week on GopherIllustrated. Strong leadership. Getting his body in B1G shape. Had 2/1 assist/turnover ratio in 2021-22 so can take care of the ball. (Samuels has improved in this stat every year.) Strong FT % and 3 pt shooting began picking up the last three weeks...

Love seeing the leadership out of some of these veterans. Excellent communication. Great confidence.

All Things 2023 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

Quick caveat... the four year athletic scholarship is only guaranteed at Power 5 conferences. A player cannot lose their scholarship due to lack of athletic performance but can for a variety of 'off the court' issues. Most other conferences only guarantee athletic scholarships for one year. In...

    "Secret" scrimmage against Colorado State

Great discussion but people are forgetting about the many transfer players who improve under a new coach or within a new system. Players often transfer to find a better 'fit.' It is nearly impossible to look at stats and predict what a player will do for their new team. Sometimes things just...

    "Secret" scrimmage against Colorado State

Some posters are concerned with the depth of guards on this team. Samuels and Henley have already been labeled as recruitment misses by some individuals... Samuels based on his underwhelming years at Dartmouth and Henley being under recruited by other Power 5 conferences and being too tall to be...

All Things Minnesota Timberwolves 2022-2023 In-Season Thread

I think the vision is length at many positions with players capable of playing in many places on the court regardless of where their positions 'should' play. I see this as an evolution from small ball if successful. Towns and Gobert have barely practiced together and only played in 3 total...

Ha! He's from Kaukauna. He transferred this spring to Lakeway Christian in TN this spring. I missed his subsequent move to IMG.

Chip: I said it last year and will say it again: Gophers basketball is in really good hands with Ben Johnson.

Last post on subject… THIS is Johnson’s 2nd class. He HAS had time to build relationships and he appears to be good at getting in on talent early. This is his program now as head coach. Walking in the front door as head coach is significantly different. Johnson and Pitino clashed over recruiting...

    Tuesday's Practice

He may not play this year but can be called upon if needed due to additional injuries. Unless, of course, it suddenly clicks for him and his play can help the team win now.

Depth and to lock him up as he'd garnered a lot of attention this summer. Bird in the hand!

Shama: State icon Lindsay Whalen, whose Gophers open their season at home November 7 against Western Illinois, is coaching for job security.

I hear you... It certainly doesn't guarantee that they're going to serve out that contract. Some of your examples expertly illustrate that!

I started down that path but don't think that most people have much alligience to their boss. They like the job and the pay more! To use football as an example... I highly doubt many highly recruited out of state players would have chosen the U of M if Fleck wasn't the coach. Look at all of...

Chip: I said it last year and will say it again: Gophers basketball is in really good hands with Ben Johnson.

Of course 'hottest coach' has something to do with it. It is the sole reason that people were irked that Johnson was hired. They wanted a coach with a stronger resume... including one that had been a head coach. Fleck had just won big at W. MI with a well-known brand and Pitino had a name. Huge...

I disagree. Would you start working for a company if you knew there was a good chance that it would go under in the next few years? I know that this is a sloppy comparison but these student athletes build strong relationships over years of recruiting and more often than not pick their school...

Chip: I said it last year and will say it again: Gophers basketball is in really good hands with Ben Johnson.

I used the MN kids as an EXAMPLE of doing well in the limited time that he had. Was Johnson the lead recruiter for any of them? I don't follow Xavier recruiting. Fleck is not a fair comparison in any way, shape, or form. He was the hottest name in coaching. There are few high school players...

Chip: I said it last year and will say it again: Gophers basketball is in really good hands with Ben Johnson.

There is little opportunity for development and improvement with a bunch of players playing their last season of college basketball. These young men are mostly finished products. The limited available players during the B1G season make it extremely hard to show, or even measure, progress. That...

Chip: I said it last year and will say it again: Gophers basketball is in really good hands with Ben Johnson.

I do not think it fair to critique Johnson on his recruiting skills based on the first class. The players from MN in that class that we missed on had been built relationships with their future coaches for years: Izzo (Holloman), Painter (Heide), and Otzelberger (King). Despite walking in the...

Chip: I said it last year and will say it again: Gophers basketball is in really good hands with Ben Johnson.

Please share the names and schools of the recruits at Evans level that other B1G teams have committed for the Class of 23- Johnson's first full recruiting year. You are correct that most of the losses were by double digits. Only 4 were by 15 or more, however. Last year's team held up...

??? The coaching last year from this staff is why the team was undefeated out of conference and competitive in conference. There is no way that this ragtag group should have been able to keep within 20 points of most B1G teams last year yet they were extremely close to winning another 2-4 games.
