    Book Recommendations

I'm usually into non-fiction, but my all-time fave is "The Count of Monte Cristo." It's pretty long (1,000 pages or so), but a real page-turner.

    Dpodoll’s whereabouts?

I haven’t read any posts by Dpodoll in a while. Does anyone have any insight? Am I just not noticing correctly? Like his posts or not, agree with them or not, he’s obviously a huge Gophers fan, and cares deeply about the programs in the athletics department at the U. Please don’t turn this...

Chip: Gophers' athletic budget concerns signal a complete restructuring of college sports

I think this is a link to the article you’re referring to. It’s a lengthy article, but worth the read. https://www.si.com/college/2020/04/08/college-football-future-2020-ncaa-coronavirus

Eleven Warriors on Gophers: I see 8-4 as the floor and 10-2 as the ceiling.

That reminds me of a quote that, if memory serves, was attributed to Hayden Fry, when he was head coach at Iowa: “In order to win games this year, we’re going to have to outscore the other team.” Yeah, thanks for the insight, Coach Fry.

    Games you've been watching

I re-watched this year’s Outback Bowl last night. A few things stood out: Coney Durr played a great game, better upon review than I had remembered thinking at the time. Of course, I was feeling a bit more stressed on Jan 1 than I was last night. The last drive, taking up more than eight...

CFN’s Bowl predictions for 2020-2021 (really) - Gophers vs Kentucky in Nashville

Yep, it’s way too early to be thinking about this, for many reasons. Yep, I’m aware of what’s happening in the world. I’m still going to post this, because, well, it’s out there, and I can, and I’m trying to be hopeful. TransPerfect Music City Bowl Date Coming ESPN Nissan Stadium, Nashville...

OSU, Virginia move summer school classes online

The relevance is that schools are keeping students off campus through the end of July, and into August. If they don’t want students on campus for classes, they likely won’t want students in their athletic facilities, either.

OSU, Virginia move summer school classes online

From the above linked website: The summer term will begin and end a week later than originally scheduled, beginning May 13 and ending July 31, with finals scheduled for Aug. 3-5. From Virginia’s website: Session I: May 18 - June 13 (Remote instruction only) Session II: June 15 - July 11...

OSU, Virginia move summer school classes online

Ohio State announced today that summer school classes would move to online learning. Virginia did the same the other day, for the first two of their three summer sessions. Of course this is just a hunch, but I’m guessing this will open the floodgates, and many (or most, or all) colleges and...

Andy Staples on PJ Fleck’s future: Go to a “blueblood” or stay at Minnesota?

Yesterday, Stewart Mandel posted a Q&A in The Athletic, in which his answer to one question referred to PJ Fleck (see a different thread in GH). Today, also in The Athletic, Andy Staples answers a question specifically referring to Fleck, as follows: Question: Dear Andy, How big of a program...

Stewart Mandel: “Kristoff is PJ Fleck.”

In The Athletic today, Stewart Mandel answers his mailbag. Included is the following: Question: Stewart, since you have a young daughter, you have viewed “Frozen” and “Frozen 2”, as required by law. If you had to compare the main characters to college football coaches, who would you pick for...

Northwestern looking at a USC grad transfer QB; former four-star

The bold part is pretty significant. A game that starts at 7:00 pm on the West Coast starts at 10:00 pm on the East Coast, and will end at about 1:30 am. Even die-hard fans would have a hard time staying up that late to watch Colorado vs. Utah (I realize those states are both in the Mountain...

    B1G bowl affiliations for ‘20-‘21

There have been some changes in the B1G’s bowl affiliations for next season. Interestingly, according to CFN, if a B1G team makes the playoffs, the Rose Bowl isn’t required to take it. I can’t imagine a scenario in which the B1G team wouldn’t go to the Rose Bowl, though, other than the...

2020 ranking from The Athletic (Gophers #16)

It’s a pay site ($60 per year, I think, though they often offer promotional discounts) dedicated to sports of all kinds. It’s well worth the money, in my opinion. They have excellent writers in all areas, including many who spent time working as writers for Sports Illustrated and other...

Inside the Film Room: An Outback Bowl Preview

Wow. You’re kidding, right? Daniel House is one of the most well-informed, thoughtful, detailed writers to ever expound on Gophers football. His stuff is consistently amazing, and is a must-read for Gophers fans. I suppose you ought to get a pass for your comment, since you joined GopherHole...

Seven teams that could make next year’s playoff (Gophers on the list)

From the Chicago Sun-Times. The Gophers made theIr list of six/seven schools that could make the playoff next season for the first time. I’m not putting a lot of stock in it, though, as Texas and UCF also made the list. Oh, well, at least the Gophers are getting some positive press...
