    B1G Game 17: Gophers Visit Iowa (2-27-20)

Right - in this game the first Taiye foul came at 3:02 in the first quarter; but the Powell fouls came at 7:31 and 7:23 in the first quarter - quite literally 8 seconds apart. So it’s more likely they were targeting Powell here than Taiye in this case. Also, Whalen was living dangerously here...

    B1G Game 17: Gophers Visit Iowa (2-27-20)

    > I miss ... Well first of all, I think what you really miss is more likely the mostly-shorter opposing centers of last year (plus mising Annalese Lamke that we could put defending the tallest/most-muscular of the opposing centers). You may recall that we didn't do so well last year defending...

    B1G Game 17: Gophers Visit Iowa (2-27-20)

    > … it was to have help against Czinano ... Yeah, you're right - it was our help defense that let Meyer help herself to 6-for-9 three-point shooting. > Iowa runs alot of really good stuff. Unlike us, who … well ... I guess we don't really run very much stuff. Mostly high on-ball screens that...

    B1G Game 17: Gophers Visit Iowa (2-27-20)

From three for Iowa, make that 2-9 for the rest of the team, and 6-9 for Meyer - and most of those we pretty much gave her, because we were running a defense to avoid fouls, and that left Meyer wide open early and often.

And the final: Minnesota 82 Iowa + Referees 90.

    B1G Game 17: Gophers Visit Iowa (2-27-20)

On offense, Doyle leans/falls into you, gets the call. On defense, Doyle flops, gets the call. Refs give Iowa about 12 points that way.

    > “Northwestern was sensational, they punched first and they had a tremendous game plan,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “I thought they competed for 40 minutes." > "I thought Iowa was sensational tonight," head coach Brenda Frese said. Rachel Banham returns to MN

    > I wondered as I watch her play limited minutes for the Sun if her injuries have impacted her game ? Yes, I think her knees (and events related to them) have been the biggest thing holding back her WNBA career thus far. In her rookie year, I suspected she was having knee issues, but nothing...

    B1G Game 16: Gophers Host Indiana (2-22-20)

Best three-sentence summary of the Indiana game, especially Patberg and Berger: > @Frink: In the first half IU got almost every shot they wanted. Even when MN did contest it didn’t matter. ... In particular, the Hoosiers took a TON of mid range shots. It’s interesting to look at the shot...

    Signings 2020 Class

    > Did Justice Ross already enter the transfer portal … ? > We have not seen anything yet to show Ross will jump up in playing time. Although nothing has been said officially about Ross (or Cummings), I think we've pretty well established that they intend to red-shirt both Ross and Cummings...

    Projected Big Ten Tournament bracket

And of course there Is also the argument that (a) playing Penn State (hopefully, not counting chickens before they hatch in spite of my honest optimism @iowa) gives us an extra win, which, if nothing else, cements us as the top-team not-in the NCAA playoffs and thus the leading B1G candidate for...

    Projected Big Ten Tournament bracket

Let’s start with Iowa. If Doyle doesn’t go off like Patberg did (hear that defense?) and we play just enuf double-post to keep rebounds in balance and keep some fouls off Taiye, we could beat Iowa. We have nothing to lose, so I think the Gophers will put everything they have into it.

    B1G Game 16: Gophers Host Indiana (2-22-20)

    > Sheryl Reeve ... talked about ... that she was going to be watching Patberg. Presumably, Sheryl was pretty impressed. Patberg scored 29 points, which is double her per-game average of 14.6 (which probably got about a half-point bump also). I’m not quite sure whether Reeve should be impressed...

    B1G Game 16: Gophers Host Indiana (2-22-20)

    > During that time (6 min) we went 3-4 from the line and 0-7 from the field. If our strategy was “kill em with our awesome free-throw shooting,” it didn’t work. I didn’t keep an accurate count, but I bet ten of our shots rolled around the rim and out. Meanwhile, Patberg (and then Berger) were...

    GopherSports: Brunson's Fourth Quarter

That’s very cool. Both the 1st grad in the family part, and also the part about running the educational non-profit. Very proud of you. You rock Jaz! Where’s the sign-up sheet for those of us who want to take a vacation week in Dallas, tutoring and doing other volunteer work?

PP: What is Gophers AD Mark Coyle going to do with Richard Pitino?

Love the humor in that post. But why is it strangely scary that this prophecy might come true? And for those that want to raise the Barn (as opposed to its floor), I’m not sure they’d be happy to just rename it to the “Coyle Barn” instead.

    If Coyle doesn’t fire Pitino...

OK, if we’re going to keep talking about Blind Faith, then let’s all take ten seconds of silence in memory of drummer extraordinaire Ginger Baker, who passed last October. I recommend the movie “Beware of Mr. Baker.” . . . . . OK, now back to the Few vs Pitino debate. Let me summarize...

STrib: Generating Offense Is Gopher Focus

OK, sounds good to me too. But how bout we focus on all aspects in one game. The Big Ten is so tough (and big) this year, that to win you gotta focus on {generating offense, accurate shooting, executing defense, assists, rebounds, getting steals, not turning the ball over, not fouling}. Did I...
