If PJ left we could do a hell of a lot worse than Kelly. The guy won 10 games in 7 of the last 8 full seasons he coached. I strongly believe PSU was idiotic to fire Franklin, but at this point in time Kelly would be about the best hire they could realistically make.

How would that be one of the worst hires of all time? Kelly has a very successful track record despite being a dick, and he has roots in the Northeast.

They were always going to get a lateral move at best from Franklin, which is why it was dumb to fire him. There's a very short list of guys who are clearly better coaches than Franklin right now, and those guys aren't leaving their current jobs.

I don't at all disagree with needing a more effective run game, but your last line there reads a lot like the people who were claiming Ben Johnson never had a chance to succeed as the gophers head coach due to lack of resources.

Another positive I noticed, usually for the Axe game it seems like there is a lot of red in the student section. While there of course was still some this year, it felt like less than in past years. I could be wrong but it seemed that way from the eye test.

Hence why I said he was a good to very good coach once upon a time, but his program was trending down.

He has a slightly over .500 record and his program went off a cliff once Mike Hankwitz retired.

To me he looks like a real lunch pail and hard hat kind of guy. Probably first one at the facility and last to leave. Has deceptive speed. A real student of the game, probably a coach’s kid. The kind of guy you would want dating your daughter.

But based on the law of momentum that play shouldnt have happened because NW’s momentum off of those first couple of drives should have carried them.
